Gunpowder and spun sugar, unique but wearable, an innovative concept
Xerjoff Don, from the Join the Club collection, is a 2013 release inspired by the mob/mafia that has very interesting notes of gunpowder, spun sugar, tobacco, and whiskey. It’s sharp and sweet, but with some boozy, tobacco-laden depth as well, and particularly with the gunpowder note, feels very unique. I’ve not smelled such a note in fragrance before, and its contrast with the spun sugar accord makes for a great intersection of “opposites” in concert with the mandatory mob contributors of whiskey and tobacco in the background.

I’d argue that Don leans masculine, but that it’s not too dark means that it feels a bit more accessible than it otherwise might be, not being quite as intense overall as, say, the first main release from Dua Fragrance, The Mobster, but with leather and some other weight to it. I really like Don for this reason, in carving out a distinction from other similarly-inspired scents. Think also of Wiseguys Vegas Cologne, quite differently a bit of a Pure Havane-esque sweet cherried and honeyed tobacco inspiration. Don lands somewhere in between—sweet, but sharp, with some edges, a little bit of depth, but not too much darkness.

Don is sold seemingly mostly through secondary markets like discount sites, at least in the US, like the reliable FragranceX, FragranceNet, and Max Aroma, but it does not appear to be for sale through official/standard retail means (correct me if I’m wrong). Pricing for the 100ml size runs around $200, with a 50ml size also being available, so it’s in a pretty good spot, pricing-wise, under the $2/ml mark at the 100ml size.

Overall, I love this fragrance, as it’s creative but wearable and is a fun realization of an interesting (even if perhaps often-used) concept, and it performs well.

The Don in the room
"Don't be a weak, be a doer!" This quote from the movie "PAIN & GAIN" describes this fragrance all too well.

I ordered a fragrance sample and tore open the box full of anticipation to finally be allowed to wear this fragrance, however, the scent reminded me when just smelling the bottle of laundry detergent.
Horrified I looked at the fragrance sample, but still dared to spray him on me and lo and behold, the scent unfolded magnificently and now no longer smelled like washing powder, but like molasses and tobacco.

After about 2 hours of wear, the whiskey came out and the sillage it left was indescribable. My work colleagues could track my scent just by the smell.
Even after a hard day's work á 8 hours, the scent was concise on me.

The perfume is absolutely not for the faint of heart, you have to be a leader or as the name suggests, a Don to wear it, because it brings qualities such as assertiveness, persuasiveness and reliability.

Carouse the night in the saloon
The Don. What a catchy name. The scent of a man who's not too sorry to get his hands dirty.

The scent plays with clichés. Especially the cliché that made a real man in 1850. The man knew how to get by with his revolver. And was smoking cigars and drinking whisky in bars - pardon me, saloons -

This is also the inspiration here. The scent is not complex, no. The scent is simple. Almost as simple as the image of masculinity at the time. So it fits.

The fragrance starts with each quantity of gunpowder. A little gunfire smell. Sports marksmen and those of us who have been involuntarily conscripted into military service know what I mean. I even find the smell a little green in the first few minutes. It's definitely the gunpowder, though. After about 15-30 minutes the tobacco is added. Very authentic and very rich, more cigar than cigarette tobacco. A little later, some whisky is added. The added ingredients do not displace the previous ones, but join them. The drydown is very similar to that of Margiela's Jazz Club, with a gunpowder note added. I don't smell anything of molasses, will be more of a blend. The scent is definitely one with rough edges, not a perfume sucked all over.

I find this combination very beautiful. Not only because I am a (casual) sports shooter and this scent brings me closer to this hobby and awakens beautiful associations. But also because a soft and warming ambience is created from whisky and tobacco. An ambience, as amber-vanilla combinations also create. But which, unlike this combination, smells of man and is definitely not unisex-suitable.

The shelf life is day-long, the Sillage is slightly more reserved than the Sillage of other XerJoff fragrances. It should also be mentioned that it is a product of the cheaper XerJoff line and is concentrated as an eau de parfum, not as a perfume like the Oud Stars. Therefore, this is absolutely fair. Half the price, but definitely more than half the sillage.

Conclusion: I liked this fragrance so much that I can welcome it to my collection today. The masculine warmth of whisky and tobacco is extremely pleasant, though not for the faint of heart. The rough edges make it not a fragrance for everyone, but a fragrance for me. Recommendation to buy can be made. Cheers!

I'll make you an offer you can't refuse!
... *marmel murmel* argh, again this mob of crazy scent freaks, waiting for me to release a commi here again... *marmel grummel* ... they don't have them all anymore... *grummel grummel* ... how can you just demand that you write something almost every day?... *mumble grumble moaning ...

... !!!

Oh, am I on the air yet??!! Uh... I just talked to myself for a second, don't pay any attention to it!!! :DDD
So hello and nice evening, you fragrance freaks (oh I do love you, honestly!) :D

Today's about the scent... hey, it's about "Don" by Xerjoff! It's about ME, DonJuanDeCat!! No wait... of course not... never about me... *rummecker*
No wonder I'm always complaining so grumpy :DD

No, it's about the Join The Club fragrance series, which picks up on certain themes. The scent "Don" is about the mafia and some things that belong to it, like gunpowder, alcohol and tobacco. We'll see if it smells olfactory, too... okay, I'll smell it!
(um, is it just me or is the melody of "The Godfather" playing in the background? :DD)

The fragrance:
The beginning is slightly synthetic-chemical, then it starts to smell like glue and paste, then becomes sweetish-sticky (which is probably due to the molasses) and the fragrance gets slightly spicy notes in the background. Then the tobacco scent comes through, which is okay, but the whiskey smells much better in many other scents than here, but maybe it will wait and see.
So, I hope you continue reading and are not deterred by my initial impression. Because meanwhile (so after 5-10 minutes) the smell begins to smell really good! I now smell whiskey, which now also smells very nice and can keep up with many well made scents with such notes well. I also like the sweetness very much, because on the one hand it comes across very gently and on the other hand so tasty. This seems to be molasses, but it smells like amber to me. I don't really smell gunpowder, there's only something that reminds me of it and you only really notice it if you sniff it very close to the sprayed spot, because in the scent cloud you will smell this scent less.
And basically the scent stays the same and hardly changes later on, except that the intensity of the individual scents decreases at some point... A beautiful scent!

The Sillage and the shelf life:
The Sillage is good and strong, so that it can be smelled well, but due to its rather gentler impression, the fragrance does not have a crushing effect if you have sprayed yourself too much.
The shelf life is long and you get about nine to ten hours, and a little more.

The bottle:
There seem to be two variants of the bottle: the well-known and inflated bottle, which is somewhat reminiscent of oriental pants, and the trapezoidal square bottle. Both are blue, of high quality and look good. On the front of the inflated bottle, you can see a gold badge with the brand logo and the name of the fragrance underneath, while on the square bottle, you can see the logo of the "Join the Club" series as well as the name of the fragrance. The lid, which is reminiscent of ancient Egyptian crowns, is gold-plated and also looks good. Both bottles are very successful and great eye-catchers.

So, despite a strange beginning (which took only a few minutes) I find this fragrance very nice here. The combination of the main scents tobacco, whiskey and the amber-like sweetness smells very nice, looks soft and radiates also well, with which the smell fits very well to the going out. As the fragrance is not too overwhelming despite its autumnal scents, it could even be described as an all-rounder and in my opinion can be used in any season of the year.
I don't know now if I would spend about 180 Euro for 50 mL, because strictly speaking it doesn't smell so extraordinary, but it's still worth a test.

Soo... oh yes, my title: I'll make you an offer you can't refuse. Hmm... I would say: I get a kiss from you perfumas, but I keep writing comments!
Does that sound like blackmail right now? However, in criminal organizations the terms offer and blackmail are blurred anyway, so... :D

*sigh*
Well... you don't seem to accept my offer. Then there'll never be a comment again. And this time I'm serious!! So enjoy this commi, because that was the last thing you ever saw or read from me here, mu ha ha ha ha ha :DD

Still, I wish you all a nice evening, see you all soon? Maybe...! Let's see... :D

The robbers live in the forest
There are princess scents like sand at the sea. Mostly they come in pink flacons, often decorated with ribbons and glitter. But what about perfumes for all the other fairy tale characters? The evil wolf was thought of as "Mechant Loup", but I can't think of much for the rest. Too bad, I would find such a fairy tale collection exciting. How does Rapunzel smell? The seven dwarves? Mrs. Holle?

With "Join the Club - Don" I have now found a fragrance that seems to have been created for the evil robbers ("Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten"). From the very first moment there is a lot of powder being shot. I haven't smelled this gunpowder note yet and even if it is particularly strong at the beginning, it never leaves the fragrance. I don't like it, but I think it's surprisingly well hit. If the robbers don't shoot straight, they light a small campfire, poke in the embers and let it smoke and coke. Whether they smoke a pipe at the same time is not quite clear. Anyway, they're sweating a little. Unfortunately they forgot the whisky in their house in the woods or already drank it without me.

Durability and sillage are quite good, but don't reach the end of the flagpole (for me "Vanitas" is the reference fragrance). Evaluating the scent itself is more difficult. It's certainly well done, but I don't like the slightly sweaty or the ubiquitous gunpowder. Let these guys keep it for a change.

Almost 1:1 Azzaro Visit, although better rounded in general. Very prominent nutmeg and cedar note. Sadly almost no whisky or gunpowder...
