Milestone
It's 1994, I'm still a long way from being an adult, and yet what is perhaps the biggest party of my life is taking place at my parents' house. About 100 people came. Even today I can hardly believe that my parents went along with it back then. I had to have such a party because I had a crush who used to spend his weekends at private parties and so mine had to be convincing enough for him to come. I eventually succeeded and we ended up snogging in the playground on our street after consuming various herbs.
Herbal was his perfume, too. Dark green. Deep green. Cuddly. With a wonderful woody freshness and a wonderful balsamic. With lots of galbanum and labdanum, but also a soft musk note. Musk has remained my kryptonite to this day. And there was still something subliminally sweet that enchanted me. You remember the blog I wrote in my very first weeks here at Parfumo, "I'm looking for you". And by that I didn't mean the guy I so don't care about today, but this perfume that I actually never found again.
After more than two years in this community, I finally seem to be getting a little closer to finding it. Dear Floyd sent me a sample of Métaboles - Expressioniste by Ys Uzac. Without an ulterior motive of any kind, I sprayed this confederate on the back of my hand and that's when it hit me. The scent is so similar to this magic water from my youth though. It's like I'm suddenly sitting next to him in the Kindel playhouse again, happy to have him with me for a few hours. Snuggle up to his divinely scented neck and imagine that this will never end now. Sigh!
This wonderful, rather light fougère is modeled on that dream scent, though it's much more delicate than its nineties counterpart. Still, it triggers those images, which totally boggles my mind at the moment. Taurus1967 wrote that it had echoes of Background by Jil Sander, behind which I now suspect the one I've been looking for for years. But I also don't want to get enough of this scent on the back of my hand, even though it has unfortunately pretty much disappeared after about 2 hours. Let's see what Mr. Polly says about it. For myself, I find now, he does not quite fit. I want to sniff that on a man. Absolutely!
Dear thanks to Floyd for the testing opportunity and this milestone in my quest. Now I just need a sample of Background.
