why so fleeting?
At this time of year, I am always split in my choice of fragrance:
On the one hand, I long for spring so much and almost automatically reach for the green and fresh compositions when testing, which usually leave me shivering (too refreshed) after the first enthusiasm; on the other hand, I look for warmth to curb the already existing chill.

After an early summer excursion, the longing for warmth wins out today; although the sun is almost sunburn-like, I am freezing and therefore one of the surprise miniatures from the pharmacy bag from the dear friend is particularly welcome:
"Orchidée", the eau de toilette from Yves Rocher, promises warmth - the warmth of precious orchid vanilla - and keeps its promise, albeit unfortunately only for a short time.

It is always a pleasure to test, wear and write about vanilla fragrances; after all, they are a pleasure in themselves due to their richness of scent that touches the senses:
You immerse yourself in the cozy, usually spiced or resinous warmth of a fragrant blanket or robe.
Or discover Sylvaine Delacourte's finely whipped vanilla foam-like fragrance artworks, which can be such wonderful summer companions.
For me, well-made vanilla compositions never become boring or even old-fashioned.

"Orchidée" is a solid and classic, timeless creation that also makes me ask myself:
"Why so fleeting?"
After all, the floral base with hibiscus and hyacinth blossom spice is a friendly introduction to a creamy, creamy white vanilla melange that could have been created in the kitchen:
Take "a spoonful of cinnamon, a few cloves, a little grated nutmeg, maybe a little allspice" - to my nose, nothing really exotic for our time, but it skillfully adds that certain something.
Even if all these spices originally had long journeys by land or sea behind them before they ended up in the warehouses of the so-called "pepper sacks" and were only affordable as a luxurious delicacy for well-heeled customers, they are now commonplace and can be found in almost every kitchen.
They therefore also correspond to the philosophy of the Yves Rocher brand, which I have adapted here: "Why wander far away, the good things are in the kitchen!"
Of course, orchid vanilla, also known as bourbon or spiced vanilla, is a very fine plant with deliciously filled pods.
Even a little more aromatic, rich and mature, it harmonizes excellently with women who themselves radiate a subtle eroticism; this is sensitively underlined here.
"Sensual opulence" would probably be the appropriate term for this and many other vanilla fragrance compositions.

A subtle femininity is already evident in the shapely round flacon in its bright color, which encloses this enchanting creation with unfortunately quite moderate sillage and durability.
Because as soon as "Orchidée" has developed its special fragrance charm (which takes a little longer for me anyway), all that remains is a hint of a fragrant memory.
I would have attributed this to my limited body heat if this impression had not already been described several times.
I expect more even from an eau de toilette.

Too bad, a little more depth and persistence would have done "Orchidée" good; but it is still a pleasant to wear daytime fragrance, which in turn does not make any great demands.
Sometimes you just need exactly that and nothing else! So the two of us will spend this Sunday morning together and then we'll see:
Where will the fragrance journey take us today?

Actually a good fragrance with a very poor shelf life
At lunchtime today, I unpacked my 15 ml miniature of Orchidée Eau de Toilette for testing purposes. I didn't expect to be reviewing this fragrance so quickly. The longevity is really bad, because after 1-2 hours the smell is already very close to the skin and after 3 hours it has almost disappeared. However, this was already foreseeable based on the sillage, as there is a clear lack of power here. It's a shame, really, because the fragrance develops into quite a beautiful one.

The top note is quite green-floral with aromas of hibiscus and hyacinth. The heart note remains floral with spicy hints of nutmeg and some cinnamon. There is also a subtle powderiness in the background. The base develops a beautiful sweetness and a fine creaminess. Here I recognize bourbon vanilla but also a nice note of woodruff.

Since I read "granny fragrance" here: I honestly find this description a little "over the top" and inappropriate. In my eyes, the fragrance is suitable for young and old. With a stronger performance, this would be an insider tip.

Pure femininity
A lot has been said about the scent. It's a classic now, too. Sort of. Generally I find the "old" things of Yves Rocher very well done.
Unlike many things, I have no childhood memory of Orchidee. My mother didn't wear it. Yves Rocher came to Russia much later, in the 90s.
But I already came to Germany in '97. I was 17, and quite inexperienced in fragrance and yet quite old-fashioned.
A perfume should have a pretty bottle, preferably to dab on, and have a floral scent. Yeah, that's "orchid."
And now for how I met him. My neighbor wore it. A young woman of just 22, but already married to her childhood sweetheart. And so down-to-earth! And really neat! With big plans for children, house and garden. Happy, faithful and completely satisfied with her life.
And yes, "orchid" is. Great bottle, slightly old-fashioned. If you pull the plug, you immediately have flowers in your nose. Hyacinths above all. And carnations. The scent envelops you, smiles softly at you.
And yet Orchid can hold its own. In a very feminine and gentle way. That scent is just there. Like the hands of the mother who gently embraces you. Like your wife's gentle kiss when you wake up tomorrow. He's just a quiet smell from home, he pulls you into his train.
He was too stuffy for me back then. I wasn't like my neighbor at all. Still, I always had to sniff him when I was with her for coffee.
The two are still together and have two children, a house and a dog. And she still wears something very close, quiet, bland? I might. She doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. She is absolutely happy in herself and with herself.
Just like "orchid." Clear, close to the skin, but present and very balanced fragrance. I soughed up here the other day and I'm very happy about it.
I wear them more often than I thought. Always being shrill makes you tired. You just need that magic scent. My time-out to dream. My "Orchid"

Surprise, surprise
This is something else for sure!
It opens sweet, strong and very floral. Lovely, it fits the sparkle and color of the bottle perfectly. about 30 minutes later the heart sneaks in, nice and calm, not-so-flowery, sort of woody on me. Very nice and likeable, but not one that stands out very much.
Seven - yes, seven! hours after I applied, a drydown explosion happened. Orchidee went stronger in the drydown than it was in the heart! Boom! I was surrounded by what seemed to be a whole new, spicy perfume. Even more surprising, it reminded me SO much of Iceberg The Fragrance without the pistacchio and before the vanilla takes over. Orchidee has vanilla too, but it's subtle here.
I don't really like to say 'this fragrance is like that fragrance', but this loud and wonderful drydown really did resemble the part of Iceberg that I love the most.
It's very long-lasting compared to all other Yves Rocher I tried. Most of them disappoint me big time when it comes to longevity. It lasts about 10 hours and after the first 7-8 hours the drydown change once more into a soft vanilla with only little sweetness.
Reading up on my own review here makes me worry about the sanity of my own nose. But this was what I experienced.
Sillage - I'm not sure, but I think it comes and goes.
I'm so happy I have this lovely gem with its divine drydown and all its surprises.
