The floral perfume of floral perfumes
Fragrances are powerful things. They can evoke powerful emotions and even help to bring back memories. Zara Black Peony is the floral perfume of floral perfumes, but florals are not the only things awaiting you with this frag. I'm very pleased to have this frag in my collections. To me it's one of the best fragrances from Zara, it smells amazing. It is based on the commercial gourmand patchouli accord first introduced by Angel, yet is likely to be the most wearable, as the earthy pungency of patchouli is reduced to a minimum, and is a mélange of creamy florals resting on a warm base of patchouli and vanilla. A smooth composition polished to remove the hard edges of patchouli, it flows like spilled honey. The scent is also very sweet and intense. Not the intrusive type of sweet and intense but the pleasant kind.

It greats you with a thrill of citrus bergamot and earthy tea, not an ordinary green tea, but more like a smoked one, distinct from other types of tea, as the leaves are traditionally smoke-dried over wood fires, imparting a distinctive flavor of smoky wood. This citrus-smoky accord is enriched by a creamy apricot, with adds that nice velvety facet to the whole opening. The spicy green notes provide an interesting counterpoint to the creamy sweetness, however on the skin, they immediately vanish into the gourmand richness.

You will rather directly smell the explosion of floral heart notes like jasmine and something subtly spicy that could be freesia. I also smell some white and pink peony blossoms. The warm floral sweetness that fills the body of the composition is constructed to allow the accords to swing gently, revealing one delicate floral note after another. Sheer freesia is folded into the sweetness of jasmine, touched by the subtle lemony notes of the peony.

Black Peony ends with a mix of rose, musk and warm patchouli. This shouldn’t turn off any patchouli haters though because it uses very warm patchouli and indeed I find that this patchouli lacks the earthy characteristic that usually men's cologne use. Moreover, the woody amber in the base enveloped by musk hides the soft streak of patchouli.

The scent is delightful, it smells wonderful and nicer than quite a lot of frags out there, and lasts well for about 5 hours on my skin. It lasts for days on my scarf and clothes. And hours after the first spritz, you’ll break it in like a worn leather jacket. That’s when things really get fun. What I really like about this frag is this sweet powdery jasmine smell in it which makes it sophisticated and extremely gorgeous. It's really floral, sweet, and clean. I am usually attracted to fresh green scents and have found that most sweet scents just sit on my skin and smell gooey sweet or very strong. But I happen to like this, good for cold weather as fall and winter. It is a daytime frag, perfect for the office as well as for the leisure time, it would be great for evening and night out.

As classy as gourmand
I tested this historical fragrance by Zara in the new edition proposed in the fall-winter collection 2018 and I fell in love with it!
I was attracted by the bottle of this edp: simple, but refined , with a pink perfume inside. So, I sprayed the scent : a flowery-fruity acchord of freesia, peony and apricot ,very fresh and gourmand, involved me in a very pleasant cloud . Then, I smelled the vanilla: light, well balanced, sweet but not sweetish, a real delight. Unfortunately, these notes are quite evanescent for and eau de parfum and this one is an usual problem of many Zara's fragrances.
Anyway, for about 16€ you can wear a little delight meant as daily all seasons scent or, better, as perfume to wear in the middle season or also when it's hot . Why don't try this pleasure?
