Chapeau, Madame Lorson!
Although I am not very fond of sweetish feminine fragrances, I have quite a few in my collection. I have no prejudices about wearing them, provided that they are not too sweet, cloying, or strong floral blends like vintage old lady scents.
Today I would like to introduce you to Zara Deep Vanilla, a marvellous oriental spicy-woody juice officially described as a women's perfume. I came across a few days ago while listening to bloggers FragranceMatt and Broadwalk on youtube. I was so fascinated by their reaction that I immediately searched for a convenient Zara shop nearby, ran after that work, bought it, and instantly fell in love with it. Oh my, oh my gosh, that thrilled me. What a beautiful scent!
Okay, if you want a piece of the action for yourself, I'll be showing you that. First of all, as official notes, the Zara brand mentions orange blossom, magnolia petals, bourbon pepper, sandalwood, and musk. So, there is no vanilla in that potion. But the scent smells like vanilla, and its name is Deep Vanilla, so what the fuss???
The mystery is here unveiled. Although not listed in the ingredients but a statement made by the perfumer on the back of the carbon box, heliotrope is undoubtedly in the composition interpreting the scent of vanilla, but not as a dominant note. Since I am not familiar with the heliotrope scent, almost unconventional in male fragrances, I Googled up for it. I found it has a vanilla-like record thanks to its delicious and fluffy scent that swings between marzipan, vanilla, syrupy cherry pie, and powdery almond. There's almost a vanilla sweetness there at times.
Well, let' talk about the scent now... At the first contact with my skin, I get a mildly sweet and floral opening; the fragrant orange blossom and the citrus-like white magnolia are detectable. During this phase, its gentle, sultry smell like quality is definitely on the far-end of what most would consider male fragrances. Still, as I also like the opposite 'power-house' end of the spectrum, I don't feel the need to live up to others' expectations.
Indulgent and, yes, unisex for the bold and daring male.
The bourbon peppercorn that surrounds the heliotrope-centric bone reveals a heart so spicy and gourmand. The vanilla-like aroma here is pleasant, smooth, dark, and deep as its name, nothing comparable with the gourmand, cake, or milky taste. There's a kind of like nutty note, similar to brown cased almonds, perhaps just another heliotrope's facet.
And then comes the base, a creamy sandal blended with the animal musk, which helps the scent last for many hours. All the listed notes can be detected throughout all the stages, starting with white floral, then muting to nutty and spicy, and finally turning into creamy and woody, having the heliotrope the most dominant and always present one.
It is perfect for day and evening, safe for work and great for leisure time, useful during the cool and cold seasons. It is warm and comforting. Congratulations Ms Nathalie Lorson, great job! I do have many of your masculine creatures, such as all of the Bentley for Men and Infinite scents, all the Encre Noir items, Graphite, Wild Forest, La Pureté, and looking forward to getting Gentleman Givenchy.
