Welcome to the final exam of this year's advanced mathematics course. The following problem: Cool Water Eau de Toilette is too blue for you and "Sir - Irish Moss (Eau de Toilette) | 4711" is too green. What do you do? Solution: You buy the Coastal Salty Forest. A fragrance that perfectly combines the two directions without neglecting the other.

It starts with a slightly salty cloud that exudes aquatic freshness but is never too intrusive or artificial. The sillage is surprisingly strong, especially at the beginning, so that the fragrance almost fills the room in the first hour and projects its scent notes in all directions. Then the transformation. The radiant blue becomes increasingly green, allowing pine needles to shine through as a component and whisking you away from the beach and into the dense, rainy forest. It is not a bright, lush green, but rather a dark shade in which the salty drops of the sea wet the needles. A little bit of cold bath, a little bit of sauna infusion, a slightly herbal note on the horizon. If you are looking for this, you can - if you can still find the fragrance - buy it without hesitation. It's not a perfume that will stay with you all day, but it's definitely a successful blend of popular fragrances that is particularly good value for money.

For me a miss by a slight margin

It could have been much better...I like to keep track (though very hard given their pace of fragrance releases) Zara perfumes as every now and then they do release notable bang for buck stuff. I have been waiting a photorealistic marine scent from them, and there it was. When I say marine, I do not mean perfumey pleasant aquatics, but more in the vein of PR Acqua di Sale, Heeley Sel Marin and my overall favorites in the category, Reminiscense Rem and CsP Aqua Motu. These are all anti-perfumes that captures all the beauty of the sea, seawater, seaweed and that iodine infused breeze. Coastal Salty Forest has the same accord, but somehow perfumers chose to combine cypress with pine, and there for me it went wrong at the top note. The pine note is all about alpha-terpineol, that smells a bit like those pine scented urinal cakes. It needs more to mask this facets and here in all its salty marine transparency that dirty terpenic pine note is sticking out loud.

Once you get through the opening, the rest is indeed a good alternative to the pioneers of this genre of fragrances.
