The Groom Of The Thoroughbreds
TL;DR Woods, leaves and roots embellish this skin. With hints of spices, earth and herbaceous notes. First pepper, then wood, and finally smoky leather.

If there is one thing that makes summer like a few others, it is the smell of freshly cut grass. A chemist or biologist could tell you what kind of molecule is that tickles your olfactory receptors, creating a sensation that, for some, is even unpleasant. It is a particular smell, which after a few hours, the grass is drying on the ground takes on something of the sun and summer that fills your nostrils if you stroll in a small street in the middle of the fields. And it reminds you it is June, that summer is starting, the beautiful days, the mountain tours, the evenings with friends with the light until late.
The scent of freshly cut hay on a hot summer day or that of the same mixed with mud and the sweet sweat of horses typical of each stable. Or the unmistakable scent of worn leather that only the saddle can emanate. A world that the equestrian essences of Endless Oud evoke, single notes capable of enclosing passions and memories in a very special container.

Endless Oud was love at first sniff for me, all about a leathery and smoky oud. It is
my second favourite after Bohemian Oud. Here the juice has a pale greyed green colour, and right off the bat, I get fresh, dark patchouli and some citrus accord, which is pretty peaty and bitter, as if you cut an unripe greenish citric fruit. That blast includes a copious dose of pepper and cedar, right there from the very beginning. It opens peaty and incisive, with a phenolic cloud of sensuality. At first, the smell is somewhere between a spice shop and peaty whiskey. That might sound like a bit of a hideous idea, but it works, and it’s this almost antiseptic smokiness that gives Endless Oud such a bold character, an incredibly pleasant character to wear, if not unique. There is a breath of freshness, pushed by the acid and spicy note of bergamot and the spicy facets of pink pepper. The green citrus fruit is faint, while the pepper oozes quite incisive and bold.

Soon, Endless Oud immerses me in the heart of an elegant forest full of character. The mid expands into more saw dusty and cedarwood with gasoline-like slant ever-present. The cedar wood shavings with modern and majestic facets counterbalance the dark shades of the patchouli, while I don’t smell the orange blossom, and oud is just a hint. After that, it heads straight into the vetiver and leather. The leather notes are so intense! I’m more used to it now, but this is a fragrance for someone who isn’t afraid to wear something with a powerful punch.

In the final, there is a dirty and slightly animalic nuance, with prominent smoky and leathery accords. Leather plays a vital role in the construction of Endless Oud, but not in the way you’d expect. At this stage, it reveals more of a characteristic of sinuous vetiver, a leathery appearance, and salty and smoky amber, which intensifies the phenolic atmosphere. The way the vetiver pops up here is akin to the dark and inky Encre Noire Eau de Toilette, which is also a brooding vetiver scent, not a clone, yet just a similar spot. The result is a fragrance with deep, dry wood notes, intensified by patchouli and the freshness of vetiver. As it dries, the perfume does not change. It just clears up, becoming more and more transparent until there is only a shade of peat smoke.

Some reviews compare Endless Oud to Guilty Absolute pour Homme. My instincts and my nose find a few similarities on the leather side between the two. The former is a dark, slightly smoky oud with an intense leathery dirty tone, while the latter is more of a woody and resinous oud in the animalic patchouli territory. Although the fragrance of this Eau de parfum is powerful upon application, it does not have the lasting power you would expect. This perfume projects strongly for the first hours and lasts for a good handful of hours, making Endless Oud more suitable for an evening application on an early spring or a fall night. And even after a light shower, you can still smell the faint trace of leather on the bare skin. It’s unbearably attractive and gives the illusion that his body smells gorgeous naturally. Don’t miss this hidden gem. Zara has launched what essentially seems to be a brilliant niche-style fragrance for men and women.

I base the review on an 80ml bottle I have owned since June 2022.

A stunner. Harsh at 1st, however, give it time to dry down. You’d be amazed how it turns out. Sadly discontinued. PLEASE ZARA BRING IT BACK!

Modern, softer and more wearable sibling of the leather classic from Santa María la Novella, Peau d'Espagna. A beauty with a friendly cost.

Barrel of tar and leather couch in carpenter's shop.
Manly scent.
I'm disappointed with its longevity and sillage.
