The Elegance Of The Hedgehog
The title of a review is not to be underestimated. It is like the frame of a beautiful painting, the cover of a beautiful book, or the box of a lovely fragrance. It has to be explicit enough to let you imagine the content, but at the same time, it doesn't have to leak too much. And for this perfume, a literary success in the original language is entitled "L’Élégance du hérisson "inspired me. "The elegance of the hedgehog" transcends excellence. It's one of those rare books with a special inner quality that makes you think about life in a way that only a few others can. For me, Infinite Wave expresses all the elegance of the hedgehog thanks to combining two important notes: water lily and nutmeg. I imagine Infinite Wave as naturally elegant, like a sloppy, unattractive, often grumpy perfume. It wants everyone to believe that it is the stereotype of all aquatic aromas blending into the background, almost without features. But Infinite Wave has a well-kept secret: it is a highly cultured self-taught. It loves art, philosophy, literature, and music. Aesthetics and beauty in all its forms fascinate it. And its talent remains hidden until the day a new individual stumbles upon it... I can't say more. Otherwise, I would indeed ruin the story.

Let's deep dive into this Infinite Wave. As the name says, this is the most aquatic of the four fragrances in the Chapter N°1 collection. A few notes are listed, which is a typical attitude for these types of ZARA scents, but I feel the dominant chords are citrus, resins, warm spices, and roots. From the get-go, Infinite Wave uncannily recalls L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme Eau de Toilette, a blend of citrus and spice, a wonderful zesty-spicy scent with an immense cloud of metallic facets, so innovative and disruptive in those years, like Cacharel pour L'Homme Eau de Toilette, a green vetiver smoky-earthy bomb. Here the scent unfurls with a bitter mandarin orange blast, which is prominent throughout, a waterfall of freshness combined with natural elegance. The top notes come off strong, with citrus, some watery flowers, and other fresh notes that are hard to pinpoint. It is a citrus aroma that sometimes becomes aquatic, although no marine notes are listed. The blend of green and citrus notes makes it feel watery and blue, with slightly herbaceous and vegetal reflections. So, the initial stage is spicy with citrus fruits, primarily bright, sparkling, yellow ones, with a subtle hint of aromatic herbs.

After the top notes simmer, other fresh notes play in the background. As it develops further, the watery aspect becomes evident with the seawater's slight saltiness, which contrasts with the woody and somewhat bitter vetiver. Instead, some moss and driftwood creep in to form the base. With so few notes listed, it is hard to pinpoint each one. Still, the two main accords I get are a fresh greenness and floracy from the velvety silver sage leaves and narcotic water lily blossoms. Not mentioned, there is an enormous influence on warm spiciness from the nutmeg. The notes come out naturally. The acidity of the citrus fruits, the seasoning of the spices and the floral notes come together perfectly. Although the scent takes inspiration from L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme Eau de Toilette, there are a few reminiscences of Aqva Amara Eau de Toilette, Terre d'Hermès Eau Intense Vétiver, and even Happy for Men Eau de Toilette. It is not like any of those colognes. Still, they are all in the same ballpark.

It sets on the skin smoothly and has a relaxed feel to it. From there, it's a chasing of heart and base notes that seem like something dry, unripe, clean, sour and just a little warm, with a touch of ozone that combines in a trio of greenish tobacco, dry sheets of paper, and smoked vetiver on the bottom. I might be mistaken, but I even get a morsel of creamy sandalwood. The presence of coumarin is felt like a powdery, almost dusty trail. It is not that powdery one we encounter with iris root or violet leaves, but a savoury and spicy powdery one. I did not remember this delightful aspect in the OG.

Bottom line, Infinitive Wave is a daytime scent, perfect for office or casual wear. I'd say it's also great for holidays and leisure time. It is fresh, clean, citrus and spicy all at the same time. Pretty much Infinite Wave is summer in a bottle; late spring and summer are the indisputable best seasons, in my opinion. Never mind about performance, because sillage is pretty good in the first hours, and longevity is above average. This perfume deserves to be savoured slowly and calmly, if possible. Evolution flows beautifully and is, olfactively speaking, refined. Ladies and gentlemen, forget about prejudice if necessary, but try this perfume. It will touch you deeply, but you will not regret doing it. I have to admit that I love it. It is very relevant today, a fresh, simple fragrance that is not overpowering like some other fragrances in men's perfumery. I see Infinite Wave inspired by L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme Eau de Toilette, which is a perfume I've been using for many years, since it came on the market, and I recognize it with my eyes closed.

I base the review on a 100ml bottle I have owned since June 2022.

Lily of the valley's elegance. A plenitude of bitter citrus with a handful of spices, then smoky amber grass with gasoline twist. Impressive

to my nose, this smells more like lily of the valley rather than the official notes (with maybe a slight tinge of the orange)
