Fourth Element: Fire
The ancient Greeks believed that there were four elements that everything was made up of: earth, water, air, and fire. How does the fire work? It is closely related to air. Fire needs three things to exist: oxygen, fuel, and heat. The earth provides an abundance of fuels such as wood and fossil fuels such as coal. Fire creates light, heat, and smoke through a rapid chemical reaction called combustion. Smoke results from incomplete combustion of a fuel. And does ZARA Element #3 Fire My Strength somewhat remember fire? Let’s find out together.

Fire My Strength belongs to the fruity fougère family and opens citric, dark, with some fruity undertones, a perceptible vibe of patchouli and tonka and a bunch of dusty undertones. There is a copious amount of citrus in here. If I had to guess, I would say sour lemon zest, orange or better mandarin. But there is more, and certainly juicy pineapple pulp, not the fresh cut fruit but more the sweet juice. Since ZARA mentions a generic fruity accord in the pyramid, I bet a green apple slice is in the mix too. The starter spray is pretty potent and reminds me a little of the Starwalker Eau de Toilette to some extent, with Aventus Creed-like pineapple and Boss Bottled-like apple.

The middle phase features floral lavender and geranium. The blue flower is all too floral, with a strong emphasis on the balsamic and aromatic aspect rather than dry and hay-like. Also, I get the velvety green and pinkish note of geranium leaves. I also catch some milky and creamy undertones, as if coconut water were part of the heart notes, and a touch of saltiness, a sort of marine accord but nothing too aquatic or seaweed. Maybe it’s just me who perceives this nuance. Surely the aromatic lavender is the one that stands out most in the intermediate phase.

The base releases delicious, caramelized and smooth tones of tonka bean and patchouli, with an overdose of creamy woodiness, sensations that are perhaps reminiscent of sandalwood. Tonka is well made here, not extremely sweet or cloying, but more powdery. Instead, I don’t get strong patchouli, anything too dirty or chocolate-like like patchouli usually presents itself. Finally, there is an amber edge, but I can’t decide if a golden amber or a salty ambroxan, as both flavours appear from time to time.

So, it’s cool, very attractive, and doesn’t seem to smell super cheap or anything like that. It goes through citrus and fruity, aromatic, and woody accords. However, I don’t understand the association of perfume with the fire element, which was much clear in the other three of the collection. The fragrance has a good deal of versatility and tends more to be a late spring, or early autumn scent and preferably an evening summer fragrance. Intimate sillage, Fire My Strength doesn’t project fiercely, but after a few hours, I can still smell it. I wore the perfume today to test it, and I got a lot of compliments even hours after I sprayed it. Surprisingly, the scent remains on the clothes even the next day, the trail of ambroxan is very persistent.

I base the review on a 80ml bottle I have owned since August 2022.
