Sweet and rosy, very easily likable and versatile
My fourth sampling of Encounter Scents is Romantic for Him, a sweet floral mix of rose, saffron, toffee, magnolia, coriander, and white musk, among other notes. It’s a little fresh, as well, a very lovable blend that’s nonetheless somewhat provocative. The first blast is very rosy and it remains so on my skin, and the mix becomes slightly sweeter as it dries down. I tend to detect rose prominently in fragrance, so that might be just me, but Romantic for Him does seem to have a good parity between rose and other elements, a harmonious blend of supporting notes that complement the rose.
Romantic for Him is another well-named creation, as it does feel romantic, as most rose-laden fragrances tend to, and leans slightly formal rather than playful, though the sweet toffee accord in particular does make it a little playful. It feels fairly versatile, as well, with respect to season, not overwhelmingly on a summer night but still strong enough for winter wearing.
I saw someone liken it to Navitus Parfums Absolutio, and while the toffee does foster some connection, Romantic for Him is far more a rose scent, while Absolutio has more of the cherried toffee vibe with a slight metallic twinge.
Like the other entries in the line, Romantic for Him is extrait strength and is priced at $85 for 100ml, with 15% off available, sometimes more. Performance-wise, it’s not as strong as In the Club for Him but perhaps slightly stronger than Compliment for Him or Confidence for Him.
Romantic for Him so far gets the highest marks of the collection, with Compliment being my second favorite. I’m quite impressed with the collection so far.
