some things cannot be bettered
The clear cool freshness of the "Nuit Etoilée" eau de toilette always touches me deeply.
I feel the quiet vibration of the nocturnal wintry silence and even expect to see the green shimmering aurora borealis: "Aurora borealis" - how beautiful that sounds!
The ladies at Goutal have brought here a kind of devotion in fragrance form: touching and vitalizing!

So, of course, it's no surprise that I almost pounced on the bottling of the eau de parfum of the same name: oh, how happy I was to finally be able to test it!
Of course, I did not look at the ingredients and sprayed in my enthusiasm generously loose:
Only, where was I?
Not in the cool nocturnal forest under a star-studded expansive sky - no, I found myself in a wholly alien world of fragrance.
(If I were being mischievous, I'd say this is where "badedas meets dried flowers.")
At first I attributed it to the very generous amount I had naively and almost recklessly sprayed over me; but even moderate doses did not bring the desired or expected joy.
For me, "Nuit de Etoilée" was and remains as EdP a disappointment!

Not only the vast amount of immortelle, which dominates this fragrance for me, sets me off.
Their austere aroma has already put me off several times; in the future I will leave the nose of it: that is, the fragrance pyramid is read carefully!
The generous dose of peppermint together with the lemony lemon makes me shiver slightly.
Not even the warmth of the yet often so cheerful orange and the powdery, actually so cuddly scent blanket of the proud iris can comfort me.
Fir balsam and stone pine support this coolness even more, make this starry night that surrounds me just cold and unfriendly; as if it had thorns.
Unfortunately, even the amber note I love so much can't change that.
"Nuit Etoilée" as an eau de parfum is not only a disappointment for me; it is a kind of refrigerator, in whose fragrance filling I feel lost.

Had I not known the eponymous eau de toilette before and had I not fallen in love with this magic night, then I would probably not be so disappointed now!
Well: the immortelle are there and we do not particularly like each other, but ...

It is already a pity that we both so not at all find each other; how I would have liked to write again a comment full of exuberance, but this "Nuit Etoilée" scratches and bites after me!

The rest of the bottling will be on its way; it's already reserved, and I'm curious to see how this cool starry night goes down with Gelis: after all, we're both known for our contrasting scent sensibilities.
So I exclude "Nuit Etoilée" in this concentration from my life and will continue to live happily with the Eau de Toilette

Forest Peace Scent
A winter storm is beginning.

Lightning flashes, dark gray clouds, darkness. Hail beats wildly against the windows. Thunderstorms are rather unusual in winter. And yet they happen more and more often, like today, right now. When warm and cold air masses meet, it rattles.

In the sky, the most imposing colors come together: gray, black, blue, purple, pink, even yellow. Gigantic everything. Pure nature.

I quickly close all the windows and look out, watching the sky, the pearly hail pelting down on my freshly planted seedlings... I hope they survive this harsh aerial assault. In the distance, the sky is already clearing, but here, above me, the world is just ending. A mighty spectacle of nature is unleashed, the great firs sway majestically in the wind, as if to say: fear not, we are your protectors. The branches seem like great mighty arms, they defy the hail and wind.

In this moment, here and now, I wear Nuit Etoilée. The forest fir scent par excellence. I look at the swaying giants. Yes, that's how they smell. Earthy, resinous, green-fresh-nutty. Fruity notes (slightly citrusy) balance out the woodsy harshness again and refine the picture. Something mint pushes itself in between.

Then calm enters again, the thunderstorm moves on. Now gentle blowing. The firs say: it went well again, nothing happened. We have prevented the worst with our branches as best we could. And so it is: all the plant children have survived. Except for a few flooded pots and churned up soil in many places, they will find their way to the light.

Now even the sun is coming out. It's making everything glisten, it's raining lightly. I wait a bit, there's about to be a rainbow. Yes, there it is. Overwhelming and huge it shines in the firmament. Fascinating! What are we tiny against nature.

Nuit Etoilée ends with fine amber and slightly herbaceous notes. Peace.
The fir trees are silent. I mean, they even smile.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Unexpected
From its very unusual notes, I wouldn't have expected Nuit Etoilée, starry night, to captivate me, but it has. The unusual doesn't always work, as we know, and for me, Iris is iffy indeed. One false step and I detest it in a fragrance. Not this time. Sniff, close my eyes and I am outside on a Balkan night, mint and citrus growing nearby, pine and fir. As I let a delicious piece of savory herb infused caramel (Immortelle's scent) melt in my mouth, I hold a single iris to my nose and look up at the stars. What a magical, strong and, in my experience, original perfume!

Glamping
I associate the mint with penny royal, crushed underfoot on a walk, releasing its fragrance momentarily. I was unprepared for the creamy Jaffa likeness to Elixir des Merveilles, or following on by association to Terre D'Hermes (JCE describes Eau de Merveilles as the sister scent to TDH)

Now push those comments aside. The amber and Iris heart of Nuit Etoilee is what remains. If this is what camping under the stars is then I can only suggest that it's 'glamping' and the lackeys doing all the work don't smell at all like this! It's not overpowering even as an EDP. I want more of it. I want to apply in in the morning and keep it going all day. It's beautiful.....and different, and soft but refined. I don't find as much smoke in this as exists in Eau du Sud, which I am also fond of. A winner for sure.

Slightly Deeper Version of th Original EDT
Upon application, Nuit Étoilée EDP has a deeper ambiance and the mint and the citrus are less prominent than in EDT. But overall they're very similar and it's really difficult for me to tell them apart. The sillage is moderate and the longevity is just excellent, 12h+. Since the EDT already has a pretty good longevity on me, I'm going to stick with my EDT and save myself some extra bucks. But for those who have difficulties with perfume longevity in general, EDP is a good option to experience this wonderful fragrance and it worths the price totally.
