Suede for All Seasons
What It Is: a deep, rich, semi-sweet suede with some forest shrubs that works beautifully in shoulder seasons, summer evenings, and winter days. Rodrigo Flores-Roux (of John Varvatos fame) is a master of leather notes, but instead of a leather jacket, car seats, barstools, or a tannery, Wild and Botanic is a smooth suede, almost like unboxing a fresh pair of loafers or pumps. It's inoffensive, office + blind buy safe, and an easy pick for a signature.
Who It's For: Mostly men, 25+, who are looking for a leather fragrance that doesn't stray into Dior Homme territory yet still remains wearable as more than just an art piece. You want something clean, creamy, smooth, and restrained. You're not interested in paying $300+ for niche fragrances that smell worse than this (and there are plenty).
Alternatives: For pure leather, John Varvatos Dark Rebel Rider is closest with sweet cola notes, but it reads more like a barstool than a leather jacket. ELDO Tom of Finland is much more synthetic vinyl, but still carries a bit of suede in the dry down. Neither are as wearable or enjoyable as Wild and Botanic.
For me, this was a late winter/early spring signature for cold months when I needed something that wouldn't cloy or offend anyone. I found Wild & Botanic well-composed, pleasing, and easy to wear in any situation.
