A true Purple Tiger Malay aroma, brain-melting...
Emperor of Kedah by Jinkoh Store.
I must admit, I am not really a fan of Malay Oud Oils. I might enjoy the occasional swipe, once or twice a year, but never crave them. Except this one. This one is by far my favorite and one that I find myself craving.
The opening is fizzy, almost effervescent in feel, and spicy-sweet. Sharp, bracing. Cinnamon and anise open the way for the treat to come. Tingling your nostrils in the most satisfying way.
Shortly after, this huge wave of powdery purple-hued clouds of florals and fruits embrace you. I imagine powdery, thick orris, together with delicate violet aromas, drenched in grape juice and blueberry crème brûlée. I get a lot of powdery purple facets at this stage, just before the thick honey starts to change the texture of it. At this stage, the texture becomes syrupy as the honey note takes hold of the composition together with the oleoresins. The fruity quality also shifts toward something akin to sugar-glazed dried plums. The honey comes in strong, and it is followed up in the base of the oil by an old wood aroma, some very faint dry tobacco leaves, and the smoothest, most exquisite leather garments one can think of. A beautiful game of textures and colors. As I always smell my oud oils through colors, I associate this one with deeply saturated hues of Purple, Brown, and Golden.
A Malay oil capable of satisfying even the ones who generally don't like this profile.
