Brief entanglement
Jimmy Bodin's work is completely new territory for me. I know it is divided over a few brands, where Jousset is the gourmand-oriented one. I suspect this release is from before the brand's focus on gourmands because, apart from a clearly perceivable pistachio note, this is more an animalic experience.
So yeah, a pistachio note. That has come into fashion these days with mainstream hits that make you want to lick the flavors off your skin, like Brazilian Crush Cheirosa '62 and Yum Pistachio Gelato | 33 , but that's not what Jimmy Bodin aims at with this one. Here it is used in combination with a set of musks and creates a leather impression. With proper success, I must say. A slight earthy bitterness - nuttiness I guess - that balances out the raw animalic musks. So far, so good.
The drydown phase is where I lose my enthusiasm, though. A sharp cypriol emerges and, just like "Ma Bête | Eris" and "Promise | Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle" , that means a piercing headache for me. So this brought an abrupt end to my entanglement with Jousset. Pity. Nevertheless, the initial phase showed enough balance and creativity for me to want to explore Bodin a bit more. His work for Unleashed Apothecary seems quite appealing. If you have any recommendations, let me know.
