Robust and hospitable - a foundation to enjoy and romp around on.
In the middle of last summer, I was looking for a new perfume. I had a relatively good idea of what I wanted: something fresh, citrusy and woody that could also have a few fruity and spicy elements in the aftertaste. Whereby the fruity was more important to me than the spicy.

With this description, I went to a perfumery that I have loved visiting ever since, where I was exceptionally well looked after. The saleswoman offered me 5 fragrances to try, 2 of which I applied. We then agreed that I would come back the next day to report back and try out the next 5 fragrances. I thought the 2 fragrances were very good but not quite what I was looking for. I told her that the next day, whereupon she adjusted her selection. Finally, she let me smell 23°8'N 82°21'W - Cuba. And I was totally blown away by its scent. Strong wood and good spice, but exceptionally light and soft, in my opinion. Probably due to the sweet, fruity note that is still hidden behind it - damn well balanced. BUT, not fresh at all. Why did she give me this? She thought it suited me and matched some of the description I gave, just not the freshness. And what I've learned over the last few months: She was absolutely right.

I tried the fragrance on my left arm and another fresh one - Mandarino di Sicilia on my right arm and couldn't stop moving my nose to the left all day. But I was also very excited about how well the two fragrances worked together and that this layering could be exactly the scent I was looking for at the beginning. A really good combination of freshness and wood, fruit and spice, with the citric and woody notes fading more quickly, leaving a subtle sweet, slightly buttery, spicy and still slightly woody scent. In the long run, Cuba dominates this blend and that is a good thing. Because the development - even if subtle - is very pleasant. So I went back the next day and bought the perfume. The nice saleswoman kindly gave me a few samples of fresh perfumes, which I always like to combine with the Cuba.

Perhaps it is inappropriate to write a review about a perfume and talk about layering in particular, but I think the fragrance is extremely well suited to this. It offers a damn good and balanced base on which to experiment a little further. I have now tried a few perfumes in combination with this one and both fresh citrusy notes and floral notes such as "Fleurs Bohèmes - Granada | Memo Paris" work extremely well with it. I particularly like wearing the latter at the moment (fall), while the combination with Mandarino di Sicilia is perfect for summer.

I keep walking past my perfumes, picking up the bottle of Cuba and smelling it. Simply because it feels good. It calms and amazes me. And it just really suits me.
