Camouflage

Apparently, the name of this enigmatic fragrance refers to the art of camouflage, or camouflage, because the bottle is adorned with a military camouflage dress in green and dark green (which is probably why Green Camou is different from White and Black Camou, two other fragrances from Mason's, an Italian fashion house). Whether this is particularly original or rather macabre is something that everyone has to judge for themselves. As a friend of metal I know that in the past pants with camouflage patterns were part of the good tone of this music, without anyone associating it with a paramilitary inclination, rather the opposite. So letŽs leave it at that and take the design and the name as a more or less successful fashion gag. That's all there is to it from my side.
This fragrance was in a set of fragrances Serge sent me, all of them exciting and idiosyncratic fragrance experiences, including Green Camou. A very warm thank you at this point for that.
The fragrance balances the two components patchouli and amber in an almost perfect way, so it is hard to say which part weighs more heavily. Both amber and patchouli do not belong here to the fine, discreet variety, but are a little rustic, earthy, spicy, which is further enhanced by the peppery note, which is clearly perceptible. If you know that Green Camou is supposed to contain myrrh, you will also easily spot this one, because the dark green, spicy, herbal, somewhat medicinal tone of this plant fits into the overall picture.
Actually, these four mentioned ingredients often displease me a scent:
- Amber is usually too warm and spicy for me and is too far away from my preferences.
- Patchouli reminds me too much of mud battles at the Burg-Herzberg-Festival in Oberhessen (the German Woodstock), mostly accompanied by swaths of cannabis, which make me feel nauseous (but highly recommended in good weather: burgherzberg-festival.de)
- Pepper may have been an original component in fragrances until ten years ago, but I was disliked by its inflationary use.
- I like myrrh as a green accent, but if it is too much in the foreground it can be very exhausting.
But if you combine these four elements, something new and surprising emerges, an experience I was able to make during the test for my last comment. The combination of basic tones to a new shape is something that always surprises me anew in fragrances and reminds me of another hobby, oil painting. For novices to oil painting it is always surprising to see the colours with which certain tones can be mixed and how completely new shades can be created from seemingly familiar basic colours.
All in all, I find this fragrance, which oscillates between spicy, warm, green-herbal, medicinal and earthy, extremely successful, almost great, even if not easily wearable and rather masculine.
