Reminiscently sweet and spicy, well put-together
Navitus Parfums Aubade is one of the two releases from Navitus x Bowtie Fragrance Guy (along with Serenade), a semi-fresh, sweet, and spicy blend, a mix of citruses, spices, jasmine, almond, toffee, and olibanum, a smooth, Spicebomb-esque hot/cold blend of spices that feels quite versatile, perhaps (as the site suggests) like a signature scent. The sharper/spicier elements (almond, cinnamon, pepper, cardamom) are used in balance with some sweetness, but the sweetness is restrained, and that seems fitting as there are not too many listed sweet notes, perhaps just the almond and toffee.
Overall, I quite like this entry, one of the house’s most versatile, a bit more of a natural-smelling and less-sweet cousin to Reve Nuit, which I prefer, but I suspect Aubade might very well work better for many more people. I do not regard it as boundary-pushing but rather a great execution of a positive amalgamation of ideas, with the most obvious reference being Spicebomb, but even a little bit of the sweetness of, say, Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia (with the common prominent almond note).
