Winter Christmas party in the gnome forest
Ede really was a funny little elf, or so he thought. His fellow elves didn't always think so, or rather never, which was because his pranks and jokes were usually very special but not very funny. This was also the case with the one he came up with for the annual winter Christmas party.

Because traditionally, every year shortly before Christmas there is a winter Christmas party in the gnome forest, which all the gnomes look forward to all year round. The most important thing at this party is the punch: it has to be plentiful, taste good and above all be effective, because it's cold in the winter forest and why do you think gnomes have red noses? There's not that much difference to Christmas celebrations for humans. So the ingredients are collected all year round: Fruit, spices and, of course, alcohol. The fruits are mainly plums, the gnome forest is just a good plum forest. Prunes, of course, but in the large cauldron over the fire, they become juicy again in no time at all.

In an unobserved moment, Ede threw a handful of herbs into the pot. The gnomes actually quite liked these herbs to flavor their food or when their little gnome tummies weren't feeling so well, but only a really funny gnome would have thought of throwing them into the punch. At least that's what Ede thought. After the elves had tasted the punch, they were of a different opinion.

But that wasn't what ultimately put Ede in his awkward position, because even if the punch tasted disgusting and made one or two of the gnomes retch, the effect was flawless. No, Ede's downfall was that he thought he had to sing a song as well. His singing voice was like his humor, rather weird. He accompanied himself on a rusty hurdy-gurdy and to be honest, it didn't sound much worse than his singing. Slowly, all the gnomes' eyes turned angrily towards him...

This year too, the gnomes had a fun gnome Christmas party in the gnome forest, with horrible punch and bad music, but that didn't dampen the mood. Only Ede looked gloomy from the edge of the clearing, where he was glued to a Christmas tree with resin.

--------------------

Christmas Wine actually has a lot of what makes a classically good Pineward forest: sweet, liqueur-like resins, rather dark wood, a little smoke and a tiny bit of green. It also has fruity, juicy notes, here mainly plum, like prunes on the nose, but not the hard ones, but the soft ones. The other fruits tend to stay in the background. It also has very spicy notes. I immediately believe nutmeg and clove, a little cinnamon could also be good. All of that would be fine with me. A spicy, fruity punch prepared in the dark forest over an open fire and not even indecently sweet.

But it also has a curry note, which is there from the start and unfortunately stays for a relatively long time. It's not like curry powder, but more like curry herb (Italian immortelle), an herb that I actually like, it goes well with fish, for example. I even had it in the garden once, but it didn't survive one winter. But: only an incredibly funny person would put it in the punch! If you look at the statements here, not every goblin perceives the curry herb and if I goblin didn't perceive it, the fragrance would certainly be an 8. For me, however, the fragrance only becomes beautiful in the base, where the herb has evaporated and what remains is a dark woody, resinous and spicy forest with minimal smoke, which I find much more bitter than the forest in Fanghorn II, for example, which is because I can hardly recognize any or no fir balsam here.

In this sense, even if it doesn't taste good, drink to the effect! Have a great Christmas!

Aptly named sweet, fruity, spicy blend with fir balsam
Pineward Perfumes Christmas Wine is, I believe, a seasonal offering from this 2020-launched house out of western US whose inspirations mainly include the outdoors and particularly pine trees.

Christmas Wine is yet another example of a great mix of woody, spicy, sweet, and resinous elements, with a note listing of cranberry, plum, blood orange, cloves, nutmeg, fir balsam. So it’s plenty fruity, a quite sweet, a bit tart, with significant woody underpinning, dense and dark enough that, like most of the house’s offerings, it’s clearly better for colder weather and in line with the current winter season in the northern hemisphere.

The juice is dark and strong, as, with other releases from the house, Christmas Wine is compounded at a extrait concentration, 30%+, reminiscent of Slumberhouse releases, and similarly, I would liken this scent in particular (as I did with another) to the stewed fruit aspect of Slumberhouse Baque and Mond, albeit somewhat better than Baque but in a comparable style to both scents.

The pricing is fairly consistent with the rest of the line, as well, with a newer, larger size having been made available, seemingly for all scents in the catalogue: $220/128/80 for 57/37/17ml.

I continue to by impressed by Pineward’s offerings, loving the vast majority of the fragrances I’ve sampled, and I still have some more to go.

Red fruits syrup
Mulled wine on Christmas night.
Sweet and very juicy: mouth watering.
A very thick, unfiltered blend that just from the color alone lets you know how rich in natural raw materials is.
A warming syrup: but one that I would not underestimate even on spring days.
Quality/price always very high like most of all the Pinewards.

Christmas for Coneheads...
Christmas Wine opens with the faintest dash of plumed orange with underlying coniferous green fir immediately detectable. As the composition enters its early heart the coniferous fir takes the fore in a big way, supported by a slightly tart cranberry spiked mulled wine accord. During the late dry-down the mulled wine accord gradually fades before vacating, as the fir looses most of its pungent green facet, leaving the now soft, near-powdery coniferous remnants to take command through the finish. Projection is good and longevity is very good to excellent at around 11 hours on skin.

Wow, what a surprise this perfume was. With a title "Christmas Wine," I nearly dismissed the perfume out of hand, believing it really wouldn't be my kind of thing at all... I was wrong. In truth, the extremely well-done coniferous green aspect melds surprisingly well with the tart mulled red wine accord to create a winning result not wholly unlike that of the very good Fille en Aiguilles by Serge Lutens, though I think I like Christmas Wine more. If there was anything I would improve on, it mainly is the perfume proves highly linear. In truth, that in and of itself is really not a deficiency, but more of a personal preference that this writer can easily look past and enjoy the perfume for what it is. The bottom line is the $128 per 37ml extrait bottle Christmas Wine is a "very good" to "excellent" 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5 rated winner from relatively new house Pineward Perfume whose current and future releases demand attention, earning it a strong recommendation to "cone heads," like myself in particular.

A fruity take on mulled wine
Christmas Wine is a bit lighter, or just seems to be on my skin, and way more spicy too. Loads of cloves and nutmeg at the forefront, there is also a good pinch of cinnamon. Spicy and intriguing. Also some dose of sweetness, but I would say it is semi-dry, rather than semi-sweet. Quite vibrant. Nice
