There's a Skunk in the background

Limited Edition of 200 pieces of the "animalic trio" together with Onthamara and Oqachol.
In the case of Rahassanai, the two key raw materials are 50-years-old Thai wild oud and Skunk tincture.
In Thai "rahassanai" means hidden code: in fact, the animalic part always works in the background and in flushes; it appears and disappears.
It is very difficult to separate the various notes since it is really full: it definitely comes out woody and aromatic/green.
Very rich and pungent aroma and dynamic in the evolution.

Dark-brown woody musk

For this limited release, Prin has got his hands on 50 years old wild oud and actual skunk tincture. That's a lot of trigger words in one bottle! Obviously, expectations are high. I cannot say that Rahassanai lives up to them completely, but it is a pleasant experience altogether.

At the center of the composition there is a duo of dark-brown musk and a smooth non-funky oud. It took me a while to pinpoint the oud, because there is really a lot going on. For the notes listed, the scent is not all that dense. The animalism is also well within socially acceptable levels. It makes me think of castoreum, just not as waxy. The dry-spicy top notes suggest angelica, chamomile and something cypress-like. They help to suppress the funk and keep things in woody-earthy spheres. Along the way, the dry woods makes place for a little smoke and resin, while the heart notes of oud and musk stay in place.

It is the mellow vibe and the slow transition from dry-spicy to smoky-resin that makes this an enjoyable ride. More a study piece or something for by the fireplace than a portable attention grabber. From a distance this is just another one of those animalics.
