Varied, interesting - tart, hearty, sweet, citric
Redbrook Parfums Underground Edition is the house’s first release, a multifaceted blend that embraces a lot of different categories, a fitting intersection as a last homage to Carlos, whose own interests who so diverse and his passion for perfumery unlimited.
There’s a prominent citric sharpness to it, with listed notes of tangerine, ginger, pink pepper, and vetiver, the connected heartiness coming from the vetiver, probably, though it gives me a bit of a petitgrain vibe, and this whole mix is contemplated by some sweetness, most prominently vanilla, but with an additional listed note of white chocolate, and finally patchouli and kelp, which I detect relatively little of, personally, but are part of the mix.
So it’s a heartier freshie with some heft, or a fresher/tarter sweet and earthy fragrance, depending on how you look at it, and that variability makes this an appropriate wear anytime. It’s strong enough to not be a letdown in cooler weather yet probably won’t scare aware others in the heat of summer, a fittingly versatile first release from the house, a sort of unisex signature scent that’s idiosyncratic enough that it would appeal to the contemporary fragrance fan more than most, but most could nonetheless probably embrace it. And at $129 for 100ml, it’s reasonably priced.
Underground Edition was sold through the house site as well as Perfumology but sold out rather quickly, so if you’re looking for it, you may need to browse secondary markets for resale opportunities. I’m happy to have a bottle ready to go when my decant is done.
