A Sweet Cask-Like Gem
Scents of Wood's "Ebony in Oak" is a true standout fragrance that artfully plays with the boundaries of scent profiles.
Upon the first encounter, "Ebony in Oak" generously offers a sweet and inviting bouquet that beautifully intertwines with the robust caskiness inherent in the brand's essence. The scent unravels further to reveal notes of oud and cedar - both of which lend a dynamic richness to its character. Interestingly, after about two hours, a faint whiff of blueberries seems to creep in, adding an unexpected twist to this complex perfume.
Comparatively, this fragrance feels like a less boisterous but equally enjoyable cousin to my current daily go-to, "Gris Charnel". Where "Gris Charnel" tends to be more assertive, "Ebony in Oak" offers a sweeter, more subdued experience without compromising on fun or intrigue.
As for the color of the spray, although noticeable upon application, I did not find it problematic. As someone with a darker skin tone, the spray didn't cause any visible staining, which is certainly a bonus. "Ebony in Oak" by Scents of Wood has been a delightful discovery. It is certainly an investment worth making for those who appreciate sweet, complex fragrances. I'm excited about the possibility of adding a full bottle to my collection soon.
