There Is Something Smoky In The Air
According to the tweet from Oddity Group, who oversaw the campaign for the brand launch, DM introduced the Seinz line to the market in March 2019, and consequently, I also assume the three perfumes. When writing these lines, Intense is part of a series of three fragrances from the SEINZ line, which has very much intensity and releases gourmand accords with spicy and mossy overtones. In the series, we find a Classic Eau de Toilette perfume, somewhat greenish with aromatic and musky touches, and a Sport Eau de Toilette scent, which has very little sportiness and releases soapy accords with leafy and earthy overtones. All three fragrances are enclosed in a minimal box that opens by sliding the inner tube, and on one side shows the olfactory pyramid with two important notes for each phase. The bottles are essential, simple, in opaque glass, and Intense is dark aquamarine when the ray of light passes through.
Of the three fragrances, Intense is the one that hit the mark, and I liked it right away. It is amber and intense and releases gourmand accords with leathery, musky, and smoky nuances. Not too intrusive, but intimate and seductive. Intense begins the journey with a cascade of citrus notes. Although no citrus note is mentioned, my nose smells of semi-acid tones of lemon, a sweet hint of orange, and the indispensable touch of blunt bergamot. This acid sensation lasts a few minutes, after which the sweet, spicy nuances of creamy cinnamon emerge, enveloping the leathery aspects of the saffron flower. The latter balances the otherwise too sweet aspect of the cinnamon bark. Gradually the scent stabilizes, the acid part subdues, while the spicy part warms up full of sweetness and creaminess, uncannily gourmand.
The journey continues, and we find floral, fruity, and greenish accords in the heart. The geranium leaf's rosy and greenish notes mix with the orange blossoms' sweetish hints, creating an intense harmony like the perfume's name. This round of sweet and warm spicy notes is nothing new. For example, we can feel it in several contemporary autumn scents in the various flankers of Stronger With You by Giorgio Armani. But that doesn't make Intense any less enjoyable, either. The spicy opening accord continues in the heart and dramatically supports the powdery flowers and foliage.
And after a few hours, we reached the end of the journey. A creamy, musky veil of woods and moss covers my skin. The sour chord has disappeared completely, while the floral aspect has faded into the background. Now, the soft and exotic sandalwood and a clean musk make sense of what remains on the skin for many hours to come. Every now and then, I also get a smokiness, which I enjoy.
In my opinion, Intense is an elegant fragrance that is worth feeling and owning. It performs well and never has mushy or misplaced peaks. It may not be unique, but it is well structured, lasts several hours even if the projection tapers off quickly, and leaves a warm and comfortable halo. An all-around fragrance, it can wear in autumn, winter, and early spring. It is better to use it for the evening, an appointment, a dinner, an event, in your free time, even during the day, but I would avoid it for work.
I base the review on a 60ml bottle I have owned since September 2022.
