mastery of a well-known combo
when I saw it was yet another rose-oud combo, I cringed a bit because it's not really the most original thing ever. however, this one is definitely very well executed, as well as quite resinous, which is new. it's also the best performing of the Shalini house with a projection that actually goes a little beyond what only your lover can smell.
this smells very juicy, as if you've just juiced an orange, except with roses! I would say that really makes this special compared to rose ouds. it's almost more rosy than smelling it from the rose bush itself--a hyperrealistic snapshot. the oud is also a very approachable oud without losing its exotic character.
Shalini has stated that this fragrance is "the ultimate profession of love" or something like that, which I can very much see. it opens up your heart with the juicy roses and can be a little overwhelming initially, even. the amber brings a warmth that opens its arms for you to collapse into, and continues to bloom and warm up on skin.
given the performance and intensity, it is a bit more "worth it" pricewise compared to the other offerings of this house. comparing with Tiziana Terenzi's Dubhe Assoluto and Frederic Malle's The Night, this does fall somewhere in between in terms of price. I do think if you're mostly interested in the composition, you could probably get away with layering other perfumes to get a similar effect unless you are THAT crazy into roses.
