Back to the future
The first time I smelled Ecada's Magnetism For Men, I had just turned 16. The saleswoman in the duty free advertised a "futuristic men's fragrance", which she said would be "very daring" and "floral". Already at the first sniff I fell in love with this spectacular fragrance, so that a few weeks later on another trip I bought the fragrance from my hard-saved pocket money. It was winter and just before Christmas. Madonnas Hung Up ran in the charts just up and down and I was for private, family reasons constantly between London and Munich on the road.
While I wore this fragrance, I was named "Best Smelling Kid of our School", which I understood at the time, however, as irony, because the magnet of Escada was quite able to tick off, especially in my age group. Many years later, I had in the meantime taken up permanent residence in Zurich, and a former classmate wrote to me on Facebook asking if I still knew the name of this brilliant fragrance that I had always worn so excessively. She also explained to me that I had really been voted "Best Smelling Kid" among the girls and said that this was mainly due to this great perfume. And indeed - there was this fragrance by Escada! I made myself on the search for the perfume, became short time thereafter fündig, only to some weiterte moments later to experience that this smell had been stopped. What a shame!
Me Ecadas Magnetism just would not let go, I searched again and again in vain on various platforms and various online retailers for this fragrance, only to find again and again that this perfume had simply disappeared from the face of the earth. In fact, there were partly classified ads, but they estimated up to 300 euros for a half-empty bottle, although in this case "half-empty" was definitely the more appropriate phrase than an optimistic "half-full".
Finally, I got to know DUA last year and after trying out some great fragrances, I spent the whole afternoon on a rainy Sunday on their homepage, where I looked at various perfumes and put them on the wish or watch list. When I had at some point felt the entire DUA page through and wanted to put the iPad away again, it came to me like a flash of inspiration: "HAVE THEY NOT ALSO WHAT FROM ESCADA?". Excitedly, I typed "Escada" into the search field and promptly the dupe of Escada's Magnetism appeared in the form of "DUA Magnetic". Immediately, the fragrance landed in the shopping cart: at the next action I would strike.
No sooner said than done - the action was not long in coming and so the fragrance reached me already a few days later by mail.
Excited like a junkie on withdrawal I tore open the package, unpacked the rather less spectacular bottle and sprayed me two sprays on my forearm: And immediately I found myself back in 2004, where a 16-year-old Carpintero stood in the duty free of Munich airport and my eyes began to sparkle. So to speak: back to the future!
TO THE FRAGRANCE:
In AUFTAKT I hear in the very first place something supple-woody, which is immediately underpinned by a fruity-leathery bouquet. The fragrance is mysterious and attractive, as it is very difficult to assign the individual notes. While many comparisons to Cherry Coke are not by accident, it still does not quite fit to equate Cherry Coke with such a versatile and multi-faceted olfactory experience.
The HEART note continues the notes from the prelude, to the supple woody and fruity-leathery notes join in the further course yet floral nuances, which give the rather dry fragrance a certain fruitiness and sweetness. If the woody, dry notes continue to dominate, now begins a seductive play with sweet, lovely notes that evoke such a beautiful creaminess. The "cola" effect is enhanced in that a portion of "freshness" and "effervescence" is added to the beautiful woody-leathery-floral bouquet at regular intervals. Like a sip of ice-cold cherry cola on a dust-dry, blisteringly hot summer day, although the overall concept of the fragrance does not paraphrase the latter, but only serves as a contrasting comparison. This effervescence makes this fragrance incredibly attractive and at the same time very mysterious.
The DRYDOWN comes in this fragrance - as with almost all DUA fragrances - very, very late (ie after 12 hours +). At the same time, the drydown is not dominated or completed by new fragrance notes, but it leads the above notes to a worthy end, where they end without effervescence in a beautiful sweet woody bouquet and leave a very light nuance of creaminess, which lasts until the next shower.
Curiously, this DUA - even though this one is very loud in terms of sillage in the opening and heart notes - is one of the DUA fragrances, with the "worst" durability. "Bad" because it's really gone the next morning - that is, after more than 24 hours of wear. I do not know this from DUA so: these fragrances usually hold for days until the next shower.
The Magnetic, however, also holds spectacularly well, but after 24 hours the air is definitely out, which is not necessarily disadvantageous to evaluate.
All in all, this fragrance is a wonderful experience, a brilliant journey through time and a perfect fragrance, for all those who love Escadas Magentism. Even for those of you who do not know the original, I can recommend DUA's Magnetism without reservation: You can expect a seductive, different and special fragrance of the extra class, which definitely brings a high compliment factor.
