Take your time
Skilled perfumers nowadays can do a pretty good job simulating the scent of deer musk. Many confidently release their solo-musk interpretation and I must say I enjoy most of them. But once you have had the pleasure of wearing actual Siberian deer musk, you realize this stuff is at a whole different level. It has that gentle fuzziness with endless tiny changes. Soap, woolen socks, candle wax, animal fur and I don't know how many other facets along the way. All in the most gentle way, slowly passing by in this fluffy cloud.
Like often the case with musk, it starts off a bit tame and kind of fades in over a long period of time. Jimmy Bodin composed this perfume with a brilliant set of silken-tender florals just to get you through that phase where the musk does not fully shine yet. In this floral stage, there is already some musky feeling, but it feels rather underwhelming. Generally pleasant, but nothing out of this world. However, once the musk is properly settled it will gain intensity and complexity. There is this transition phase from floral to musky where the composition starts to make perfect sense. The florals slowly give way to the musk and let it shine in full glory all the way into the drydown.
If this was not so darn pricy, I would have already gotten myself a bottle. For now, I am happy to store this beauty in my memory. Gladly I have Khaan which is another great deer musk experience.
