Aphrodisiacs

We often hear that certain substances such as foods or fragrances are aphrodisiacs, but what does that REALLY mean?

The word "aphrodisiac" is of Greek origin, deriving from the Greek Goddess Aphrodite or Aphrodisios. Known as the deity of love, beauty, pleasure and eternal youth. When a substance has aphrodisiac properties, it stimulates sexual desire. The effects vary from person to person, but typically occurs immediately.

Fragrances that contain notes of vanilla, sandalwood, cinnamon (cassia), jasmine, rose, magnolia, orange blossom, grapefruit, basil, ylang ylang and davana are known to have aphrodisiac impacts. Strawberry and chocolate are said to have the same effects when eaten.

Have you ever become consumed with a scent someone was carrying, and lost your train of thought or suddenly lusted after that person? Where were you and what fragrance provoked this experience?
