Vodka fig with bitter lemon
"Inspired" by one of the many perfume videos currently flooding my YouTube feed, I organised a sample here at Souk from one of the many lovely people in the community and I have to say, Fico di Amalfi meets my expectations exactly. From Acqua di Parma's Blu Mediterraneo range, you'd expect a brilliant fruity opening and a quick fall-off into an unobtrusive skin-toned daytime scent. That's exactly what is delivered here. The first waft that hits the nose contains, most prominently, the signature fig aroma you'd expect to find in your trusted vodka fig. This is joined by a hint of citrus. Years ago, I dedicated a variation of the Vodka Lemon to an adorable college student, which I christened " Foxtrot" in reference to her fox red hair. I'll put the recipe at the end of the review for you. Anyway, the top note of this fragrance hits the smell of this very cocktail with fabulous precision. First and foremost, you notice the fig. In the background, the acidity of the bitter lemon and the freshness of the mint, picked only minutes ago, provide a pleasant summeriness. After half an hour at the latest, the citrus fades and you are left with a scent of fig and coconut that can only be perceived up close. So longevity and sillage are clearly below average. But even for that, there's a day and a mood. When it's 30 degrees in the shade, I definitely don't want to be slain by a blast of Layton Exlusiv. On days like that, I find it very nice to enjoy a nice opening for a while and then go about my day's work only subtly scented. I can definitely recommend this fragrance for such days. Personally, I'd like it even better if the citrus was more assertive, but that's easily remedied with a splash of Bergamote 22. The scent is suitable for a whole range of people. It looks good on both men and women. I would assign it more to someone under 40, but even a young-at-heart can reach for this flacon.
Who is not yet completely convinced, is cordially invited to prepare the following cocktail. Then you have a solid impression of the top note and also immediately a cold drink for warm summer evenings.

"Foxtrot"
5cl vodka fig
15cl Bitter Lemon
Juice of half a lemon
two sprigs of fresh mint

Build in a glass or shake over ice and top with bitter lemon.
Enjoy!

Unorthodox freshness for spring
Introduction
in midsummer last year, just as my enthusiasm for perfume was gaining momentum, I ordered a sample set from MFK, because the price had convinced me and a friend had recommended the house. It contained Aqua Vitae Forte, Amiris Homme, masculin Puriel and Aqua Celestia Forte. I had chosen the two aquas based on the scents, the others had been suggested to me. When the samples finally arrived after endless delivery time, it was a balmy 30-37 degrees Celsius outside and I'll tell you one thing, dear perfume enthusiasts, that is not the right temperature for MFK fragrances. While Masculin Puriel was somewhat bearable even in the heat, the other scents made me want to flush my nose with rubbing alcohol in no time to escape the penetrating smell. Am I saying that the scents are objectively bad? Absolutely not. Everything has its time and place and a wonderful down jacket doesn't make you happy on the beach in summer. Still, the samples went to the back of the shelf for a little over half a year. Now that spring beckons us, it was time to give them a second chance. Today I was in the mood for something fresh.

The Scent
Aqua Celestia Forte starts off very fresh, rather citrusy. Maybe it's the lime - clearly I can not identify it. At 20 degrees, the fragrance also really has a pleasant intensity. The only drawback is that the acidic freshness, especially in the first few minutes, runs the risk of awakening cleaner associations. After a short while, the scent becomes softer and more floral. The scent continues to form a pleasant cloud that the wearer also regularly gets something from. However, it seems less room-filling to me than Masculin Puriel. To my nose, this is a true unisex fragrance. I feel that men who see themselves as modern and are not afraid to emphasize their feminine side will have the most fun with this perfume. For women, it is a pleasantly fresh change from the sweet vanilla fragrances that currently dominate the market.

The outfit
I have a breezy spring outfit in mind. The fragrance is flamboyant in a way that would definitely allow the combination of a patterned Hawaiian shirt with plain shorts. For the brave among us, even a nice straw hat would be appropriate. The ladies could wear a simple short dress in light colours (e.g. lemon yellow). So equipped it could then go with good drinks and a portable grill to the lake.
I for my part am already looking forward to spring and am happy about the small view, which gives us the weather at the moment.
In any case, I wish you lots of fun trying it out. Subsequently, I would be interested in whether you find yourself in the recommendations for the outfit or perhaps have completely different associations with the fragrance

Percival, is that you?
Mexx Fresh Splash actually manages to convince. Driven by the, for a cheap fragrance impressive, rating I gave him a chance this morning and I must say, for the price he is outstanding. It starts off very fresh. Dominating is a shower gel note that has a distinct closeness to Percival by PdM. Underneath, very green herbal notes provide an individual impact. Basil I think is a rumor, but tarragon could be. Anyway, these herbal notes give it a very dry, downright salty, underpinning. H/S seem rather mediocre to me.
At this point I would usually make a recommendation for a matching outfit, but honestly the scent refuses to "talk" to me in that regard. The most likely outfit that comes to mind is plain shorts and a matching shirt or t-shirt for a day out with friends at the park.

Bottom line: the resemblance to Percival is striking. Who is looking for a fresh shower gel fragrance with a clearly individual touch for very little money, is well advised here. Miracles should not be expected, but a test he is definitely worth

From Haithabu with love
In keeping with the release of Assassins Creed Valhalla, my first comment in this forum should be Viking from Creed. I admit to having done this scent wrong at first through prejudice. I had never really associated roses with men. But after I had the opportunity to test L'homme a la Rose by MFK in a local perfumery, my opinion changed. Although the new creation from MFK was received with only restrained enthusiasm in this forum, the fragrance convinced me personally of the wearability of a rose scent. The idea of combining gentle roses with the warm scent of sandalwood and the mysterious darkness of vetiver seemed to me to be incredibly exciting. So Viking was to become the first fragrance I ordered a sample of here. Given the name "Viking", it was the ideal candidate to embark on this new adventure of a fragrance community, following the Viking heritage of discovery

But now to the fragrance:
I put it on at 09:18
Viking opens, at least for my nose slightly fruity and very spicy. Up close there is a clear similarity to the cinnamon chewing gum "Big Red". However, a cheap chewing gum note is not meant with it. As soon as the first pungency has evaporated after a few seconds, the flowery note of the rose also appears. The scent fascinated me from the first second on. It manages to be soft and spicy, masculine and gentle at the same time. In any case it is extremely extraordinary. There's not even a hint of the monotonous "Douglas scent" that you recognize as a pattern in every other perfume in the drugstore. Just like the Vikings understood how to stand out among the peoples of their time, this fragrance can also claim its very own character for itself.
10:05 am /br />
After an hour, the rose note becomes stronger and the fragrance overall even rounder. Again and again clouds of spicy elegance rise into my nose.
11:20 am meanwhile the last remaining sharpness has given way. The fragrance fills the room with a spicy, masculine, warm scent. To me it feels like the firm embrace of a loving father. The scent awakens associations in me of my childhood, of my father's fluffy fleece sweater, his strong arms and the soothing sound of his breath.
Even if this is a peculiarity that is entirely specific to me, this fragrance is the perfect choice for a date where you snuggle under a blanket together on a cold winter's day and enjoy a movie.
But by no means is Viking just a date fragrance. It may seem less formal to me than Prada l'homme, but a suit will certainly look good on a formal occasion. I have a navy blue double-breasted suit with a white shirt and an ochre tie with a high red content in mind. The dirty, sweaty picture of a plundering farmer/Viking he is not able to serve for me. This does not seem to me to be any harm though.
It's probably not for teenagers. But it's not as classic as Bois du Portugal. I would say that it is best suited for self-confident men between 25 and 55. If you don't like to stand out, it's the wrong scent, but if you want to underline your standing outwardly with a very unusual scent, you are without question well advised to buy a bottling at least once. Due to the pandemic, the frequency with which I meet women has fallen drastically, but those I was able to show Viking to were quite taken with it. In the evening, the scent was a source of compliments in passing and was still clearly noticeable the next morning. The projection is hard to estimate when you wear it yourself, but it should be a little more than an arm's length and the scent train is quite wonderful.
Enough with the words. Thank you very much for your attention and enjoy testing.
