What am I missing?
This was a blind buy, I know I should have learnt my lesson but so far my xerjoff purchases have all worked out beautifully. This is a beautiful fragrance and had I bought it as a designer fragrance from Sephora I would be happy enough with it but having the expectation that this is a special Qatar exclusive that many perfume lovers were waxing lyrical about I was not impressed.
I feel like I am missing something, maybe I am anosmic to it but so far I can’t see why this was getting a lot of love. It’s a pretty floral, quite light given my experience with xerjoff fragrances and I do not get the link to Qatar. It’s not a scrubber, it’s pleasant and subtle maybe too subtle!
I cannot pick individual notes, apart from the opening fresh bergamot note. The dry down is clean musk. A lot of reviews say it’s similar to Alien, I am not sure about this comparison. Surely, Alien is far stronger. What’s everybody’s thought on this?

Quintessentially Guerlain signature lipstick parfum
This is part of the Elixir Charnel collection from Guerlain. The bottle comes with a little metallic plate and nice leather box. As far as the fragrance is concerned, it of course has the Guerlain DNA which you either like or dislike. I get a massive lipstick vibe from this fragrance and I could’ve sworn it has cherry, even though the notes don’t have cherry in them. It has the vibe of la petite robe noire and I will do a side by side comparison to test the extent of this similarity.
I read a lot of reviews saying it’s similar to Frederic Malle’s lipstick rose, however I don’t get this. I personally did not like lipstick rose :(

Immortals not immortelle
I bought this perfume blindly after I read the description online, yeah I am gullible that way !
I liked the idea that the perfumer has created a perfume using an old Egyptian legend of immortality for the famous London Department Store Harrods.
The store is located on Brompton Road, hence the name!
The perfume comes in brown glass bottle, like the rest of the Ex-Nihilo Babylon collection. It opens up with a burst of saffron which is quickly joined by a huge floral Cloud, mainly rose and jasmine.
To my nose the jasmine is more prominent. The saffron persists throughout this floral explosion, reminiscent of BR540. The sillage is monstrous and the flowery Symphony lasts almost for the duration of the wearing. The fragrance has a strong perfume hoodie or silky scarf that accompanied me all day. This is something I like in my perfumes, like Oud Satin Mood or Exquisite Embroidery. Brompton Immortals seems to get stronger throughout the day. The dry down on the skin is a smooth incensy/ spicy vanilla. This is a beautiful creation, on the sweet side. The saffron and the Egyptian legend gives it the Oriental edge.

Quite possibly the best fresh rose fragrance in my collection
I first bought this blindly, as a 10 ml sample on one of the Perfume aficionados groups. I was looking for the a perfect rose that’s subtle enough to wear to the office but special to be a statement perfume to wear for an upcoming interview. Sure enough, it’s arrived and I wore it on a very hot day in Germany. I kept getting wafts of it all day, but felt it was too weak at the time to justify the price tag. Few days later, I could still smell it on my watch strap and I had to revisit my sample and surely enough I fell in love.
I cannot pick any of the notes, to my nose I smell fresh rose. It’s fresh with a citrusy opening, light and airy and kind of soapy clean at the end most likely it’s the presence of musk. I’ve checked various websites and it is actually a very complex fragrance with loads of notes that are hard for me to pick up as rose seems to be the most prominent and lingers throughout the wearing of the perfume. I got a full bottle and was going through it at great pace, I now have a backup bottle too. I cannot comment on the price tag, it’s of course expensive. Is it worth it? Well that’s very tricky question. How do we decide if a fragrance is worth the price tag? Are there other rose frags in the same category? I’m still looking, and I think Bvlgari le gemme desiria might be in the same ball park for half the price.
Price aside, it’s a beautiful chypre worth a try.

Love at first sniff
while on business trip, I had 5 hours to kill at Charles de Gaulle airport my least favourite airport if I may add. What’s with the €13 Euro coffee & muffin? I was having none of this so I started hanging around the newly redone perfume section, and let me tell you that was heaven.
I made a bee line for YSL counter wanting to try magnificent gold, tuxedo and the rest. There were no sales assistants about so I smelled every single perfume in the golden bottles. I knew of magnificent gold and this one was a total surprise to me. It was heavenly from the Initial spray, or you may want to say exquisite! It was rosy, fresh spicy, smooth yet piercing. It was beautiful and familiar, I loved it! When I finally got to my meeting, I opened my bag to pick up my phone and all I could smell was exquisite embroidery. It had overpowered all the others. The opening is amazing and it lasts for a long time but the dry down is equally beautiful with smooth ambergris and hints of oud. When I got home, I realised why it smelled familiar, it reminded me of Oud Satin Mood! It was less sweet, with even less oud and maybe a little airy. Importantly, it has that comforting scent aura that stays with you all the day. I’m in love with this scent, and I own both this and Oud Satin Mood. I find them different enough to have both. I also credit my growing love for ambergris to this little beauty, it is just amazing.
According to YSL, exquisite embroidery has ginger and nutmeg in the opening, which is probably why it has that zing when you apply it. Give it a try!
