Double Disappointment
Double Disappointment
Finally! My lovely big decant arrived in the post this morning. I have had this on my wish list for ages, and finally had the chance to purchase a decant from a fragrance buddy. Of course I purchased it untested! This is the icon of vanilla perfumes! I have read so many glowing reviews, I couldn't possibly go wrong buying it blind. After all, I adore vanilla, and this is portrayed as a Holy Grail! Oh..how the tables turned on me! I sprayed it, and straight away I got a blast of vanilla essence, laced with rum. Ok, this is just the beginning..let's wait till the creamy, dreamy vanilla kicks in! It probably has to develop, as this is the Queen of all vanillas, after all! Four hours later..still waiting, and nearly in tears at the utter disappointment! Not even a trace of rose, nor a hint of jasmine..just a low quality vanilla soaked unbaked rum ball. Oh where is the luscious, elegant vanilla that is in my Shalimar Ode a la vanille Madagascar? I feel so let down. It must be my skin, chemistry, nose, or something I just can't fathom! I must be one of the very few people on the planet that doesn't adore this fragrance! I am almost ashamed to write this review, and in actual fact, did delete the first one, as it sounds so unbelievable that I'm not weak at the knees from this perfume. I am, however, not sorry I purchased this decant, as I would have been always sorry I never had the chance to experience it. But I've learned one thing..Double the anticipation, double the disappointment! P.S. This was posted in the German reviews, by mistake, so ignore the fact that is says German review...I can't write German anyway! (wish I could :)

A Proud Patchouli
I received a sample of this fragrance, and was automatically drawn to it, as the patchouli reminded me of the same, good quality patchouli that is is the dry down of the fabulous Chanel Coromandel. I am not comparing the fragrances, not at all, but trying to point out the smoothness of the note. The opening is all about the patchouli, with a crisp, and sparkling cedar. The sandalwood is evident, but doesn't overtake the other notes. I have been wearing a generous amount for a few hours now, and it has a good longevity, and, on me anyway, a moderate sillage. I don't think it would be necessary to over apply, as it is a quite rich fragrance. The middle part of the wearing evens out, with a nice amount of amber. As for the dry down, it has a touch of vanilla, But not overly evident. I believe this fragrance could quite easily be layered with a nice fresh vanilla, and it would meld nicely together. I would buy this for my sons, as even though patchouli is nothing new, the fragrance come across as modern. Yes, I would say, a proud patchouli.

Old School, recaptured...
This is one of those fragrances that recaptures the past. I have reviewed a few other Divine fragrances, from my lovely sample pack. I had stored it away, and decided to revisit these lovely scents.

This seems, to my nose anyway) to be an old fashioned floral, without the aldehydes). It opens with the Jasmine, which remains throughout the whole wearing, mixes nicely with the other notes, but keeps the jasmine and ylang ylang vibe going strong. The black currant leaf is not too detectable, it just seems to give the bouquet a nice touch. No chance of this feeling like some fruity, sweet concoction! I would go as far to say that this is a perfumey perfume. But, not a brash, or blaring fragrance. It could be the peony that gives it an old fashioned feel. I have worn this for two days now, to get the atmosphere of this fragrance. I think it's a very feminine fragrance, not heavy, or overbearing, but a gentle, old school bouquet of flowers.

Magic Carpet Ride.....
I am astounded at the beauty of this fragrance! I received a small sample of this wonderful scent, and didn't bother to try it for a long time. I don't own any Armani scents, so wasn't anxious to try this, as wasn't familiar with the Prive collection. I was blown away with this fragrance! Rich...that isn't even the word..more like deep, and haunting. A magic carpet ride..intriguing, and long lasting. Longevity is incredible, as very few fragrances will last on my skin, but, this is like a wonderful song, it has it's high notes, and mellow notes, but plays loud, and clear! What a rose! A leading lady, supported by Oud, Patchouli, and vanilla. All the notes are there, the opening is teasing..like a cologne. Interesting, but beckoning you to wait. Then, the beginning of the song starts..a slow melody of violet, saffron, with a twinge of rose. Then, a burst of notes! It evens out to something really special..The rose seems to float in between the gorgeous patchouli and Oud. I have never had a fragrance that drifts..it is soft one moment, then strong the next moment, and this is after wearing it for 8 hours and more! I'm in love...this is my Magic Carpet Ride Fragrance!

A Gentle Rose, Wrapped in Silk.
This is the only Tauer I have tried, that has come across as soft. I was expecting a deep, dark, and rich fragrance, and I was really surprised at how this came across, well, for me anyhow).
The opening is really interesting..I didn't detect any rose first off, it is more of a wisp of gentle smoke, with a touch of the almond and apricot. I have found this slight smoke accord to be present in most of the Tauer perfumes, but this is only a faint touch in this fragrance. I must say, the rose accords are very light, and soft. In his other creation. Une Rose Chypree) my favorite of his rose fragrances, The Rose is very pronounced, and bold. It's almost as if this rose is hiding in the mist, and just peeking through. This fragrance, in my opinion, is very feminine..even though it's classed as a unisex fragrance). The dry down is very soft, as well, and I did re-apply after two hours to have a sort of second round of options. I enjoyed wearing it, but was expecting something much stronger, or perhaps bolder is a better word. Another interesting point, every review I have read on this fragrance has been really varied. Some have said it's really rich, and bold, others have had a similar experience to mine, in that it is a soft scent. It doesn't come across as very sweet, I would say the notes are very nicely balanced. The slight tobacco note is pleasant, and there seems to be just a touch of patchouli..which stays very close to the skin. I didn't find the sillage strong, but it is detectable. I hope to order this in the Tauer Explorer set, as I do like it, Yes, a lovely, but gentle Rose, wrapped in the softest silk.
