Surprise, surprise
This is something else for sure!
It opens sweet, strong and very floral. Lovely, it fits the sparkle and color of the bottle perfectly. about 30 minutes later the heart sneaks in, nice and calm, not-so-flowery, sort of woody on me. Very nice and likeable, but not one that stands out very much.
Seven - yes, seven! hours after I applied, a drydown explosion happened. Orchidee went stronger in the drydown than it was in the heart! Boom! I was surrounded by what seemed to be a whole new, spicy perfume. Even more surprising, it reminded me SO much of Iceberg The Fragrance without the pistacchio and before the vanilla takes over. Orchidee has vanilla too, but it's subtle here.
I don't really like to say 'this fragrance is like that fragrance', but this loud and wonderful drydown really did resemble the part of Iceberg that I love the most.
It's very long-lasting compared to all other Yves Rocher I tried. Most of them disappoint me big time when it comes to longevity. It lasts about 10 hours and after the first 7-8 hours the drydown change once more into a soft vanilla with only little sweetness.
Reading up on my own review here makes me worry about the sanity of my own nose. But this was what I experienced.
Sillage - I'm not sure, but I think it comes and goes.
I'm so happy I have this lovely gem with its divine drydown and all its surprises.

Mossy leather
Very good animalic/woody/leathery perfume. I find a lot of moss, but the flowers don't stand out imo.

I don't find it sunny or summery at all, nor do I see where the Mediterranean inspiration I've read about elsewhere comes from. Maybe it's just me, I never see those things in any perfumes in this group.

It's recommendable and I do like it very much. I wouldn't buy it though because I already have Cabochard and Miss Balmain. If you have one or more of these, you don't need this one much imo.

Woody Coconut
This perfume is Drop Dead Beautiful!

The opening is so nice, round and well-blended.Very elegant and smooth. And it just gets better and better over time.
It doesn't take long before the coconut and patchouli stand out. They mingle extremely well and stay strong during both heart and drydown - at least to my nose. There's nothing tropical or beachy about this scent in spite of the coconut.
It's one of the most elegant perfumes I've ever laid my hands on. Very warm, smooth, seductive, above all classy. The longevity is amazing - after 8 hours I still got whiffs of it when I moved around.

I wore it to work today. No way I am ever going to waste this gem again for something like that!

The Great Unknown
When I bought a sample set of perfumes from Etat Libre d'Orange, I of course had to test this notorious fragrance right away.

I don't smell blood. I don't smell dirty vagina. I don't smell sperm.

I don't know WHAT I smell, but it is not perfume. This is not a perfume. I have no clue what they manufactured here, it's definitely unpleasant and it's not a perfume.

30 mins and I gave up. I had to scrub twice to get it off me. I agree, it's awful. Is it rot I smell?

I think I will have to test it again someday, just to try and figure out what the H*ll this is.

This is not a review.
I can't review this perfume, not really. It's been more than 30 years since last time I had a bottle. All I can say is that I could just sit and sniff my Maderas de Oriente for hours and hours, deeply inhaling it like a drug.
The sandalwood sticks floating around in the bottle gave it a certain magic.
I went through several bottles in my early youth and never grew tired of it.

Back then I used to go to Spain on holiday and I always bought it there. I remember they sold it everywhere, in every single tourist shop they had bottle after bottle lined up. It cost next to nothing. I mean, literally. It was SO dirt cheap.

I actually found it on ebay recently. At $325 for a bottle. It looks like I will keep living on memories. Maybe that's only for the better. Who knows, I might be disappointed with it. It has probably grown in my memory to these epic dimensions. Nevertheless, it is the only perfume in the world that is truly special to me. There are many I love, like, enjoy, but this was just The One.
