Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene!
Hachja, the Layton. Admittedly, I bought it more or less blind. As bottling. At the souk. Parfums de Marley? A manufacturer I know. I have a high regard for Godolphin, and I also tried the Layton Exclusive at the store. Nevertheless the Layton was a blind buy, I guess the typical PdM DNA. Very much so.

Sweet scents are not really my thing, but I needed this one fragrance that I can access when I don't feel like using the other scents I like - green, woody, fresh, spicy, citric - and I'm not in the mood for it. It is a niche fragrance for the mainstream. At least that's what they say about the Layton. So it's an all-rounder. A flatterer. 17-year-old girls who go to the Coachella Festival love him as much as the experienced perfume connoisseur who could write a novel about every fragrance.

The question that comes to mind: How can I describe him this scent? To be honest - I don't want to describe it at all. I want to evaluate it, namely according to the place it occupies in my perfume collection. Sweet scents? Not really my thing! I am not impressed by gourmand sticky dessert surrogates that encourage others to bite into them. Nevertheless, there are those few moments of the year when I wish for a perfume that would be a counterpart to my current collection. A contrasting program, that is. Layton is the fragrance that I appreciate in my collection, but which I rarely use because as a crowdpleaser it's just too obviously appealing. In a certain way I like him, but I could never commit to him. It is a fragrance without edges and corners and with a predictable but pleasant course. It's like a song that you would classify as 'guilty pleasure'. For example like the cover song 'Jolene' by Miley Cyrus. You move to it, you sing along, you feel it, but you feel a bit ashamed of yourself when you roar along to it. A fragrance you don't have to have, but you miss it as soon as you don't have it anymore

Show-off slide with design flaws
That Bentley wants a lot. He wants to be ostentatious, he wants to seduce, he wants to exude confidence.

However, this Bentley has a few horsepower too many. It lacks the lightness, the balance, the attention to detail.

Not the leather seats are soaked in rum, but the tyres.

It smells of rubber
