French Lover
Very interesting ''old school'' perfume.
Frederic Malle asked JC Ellena for a stronger and more intense version of Angelique Sous La Pluie. JCE worked on the formula for several months and he almost finished it - however at the time he signed the contract to be the exclusive nose for Hermes. So he was not allowed to give his formula to Frederic or to work with Frederic anymore.
Malle called JCE and asked him if he could advise him on who could do the job instead of him and JCE recommended Malle's longtime family friend - Pierre Bourdon. Malle asked JCE to share the initial idea and concept of the formula with Bourdon so that he could complete it and put his “final touch”. And here we are... we've got the French Lover.
It's not a secret that French Lover was kind of a collaboration and that the inspiration was ASLP. The story is verified from a Frederic Malle book I bought in Paris.
If you are in the USA, you will find French Lover under the name "Bois D'Orage".
Another interesting fact is that this is the last perfume that Pierre Bourdon created.
French Lover might be one of the safest picks from the house.
Woody, slightly spicy, wet and cold smell of the forest after the rain - when the aromas start to evaporate from the soil. It is quite green and vegetal. It’s not a classic woody perfume you'd expect to smell when you see the notes.
Very natural scent of cedar wood.
Quality should not be mentioned when it comes to Frederic Malle. It's always top notch.
Projection and longevity are probably one of the weakest from the house.
It projects for an hour or two, very moderate...
Longevity is solid, definitely over 10-12h. But just slightly stronger than a skin scent.
But if you want your perfume to "dominate" from you - then you might need to skip this perfume.

Dans Tes Bras - In Your Arms
Maurice Roucel just loves musk and musk loves him.
Maurice has “only” two perfumes for Frederic Malle and I would say that both are masterpieces. Musc Ravageur and Dans Tes Bras. Totally two different approaches to musk. Sweet gourmand musk (MR) and salty creamy musk (DTB).
Dans Tes Bras has more musk than Musc Ravageur, that's something which Maurice said. And indeed, musk is there for the life of the perfume. Cashmeran is there and gives that "smooth", refreshing, powdery note. Violet gives saltiness, but it is so well synchronized with musk, sandalwood and cashmeran that the saltiness is not sharp and aggressive but creamy.
For me, the biggest factor in this perfume is sandalwood. I smelled a bunch of sandalwoods but I only found this one in Frederic Malle (Example of the same/similar sandalwood: Une Fleur De Cassie).
Not only that sandalwood gives that creamy/woody note but it is also the only note that stays in the nose after a few seconds and then when you move your nose away you can feel it on your tongue as well. Really amazing perfume.
Pure quality in a bottle.
Along with Une Fleur De Cassie, Iris Poudre and Musc Ravegur, I would say that this is one of the "most artistic" perfumes from the house. I’m not saying these four perfumes are that hard to wear (I wear them all), but definitely the idea while creating was to satisfy and make the wearer happy, not to give you a compliment (Although somehow Musc Ravageur is hyped (well deserved), I think that it was initially made as a masterpiece work for a brave audience or fragrance enthusiasts rather than to be hyped).
It lasts 10-12+ hours, but the drydown can last a few more hours depending on the temperature and weather. It stays on the clothes until washing (for a couple of days), solid for this type of fragrance.
My rating would be 10+. Even my wife who isn’t that crazy about FM sometimes goes for DTB and says it’s wonderful and refreshing.
DTB will be with you for the whole day, close to your skin. It wont bother the people around you. But no doubt, DTB will be felt by the person who is *in your arms*. :)

Incense!
This is the most realistic incense I have ever smelled in my life. It smells IDENTICAL like when you enter to a church. Dusty, woody, dirty incense. It is there from the beginning and it will stay with you until the end. It is amazing that incense will remain the same all the time while other notes will come and go.
The opening is not animalic as The Night, but you can immediately feel the rose, smoke, oud and pepper. Pepper definitely softens the animal opening so it’s lighter than The Night and The Moon initially.
Dry down is a smoky, incensy labdanum. And through the labdanum you can feel the oud incense.
It's a cold fragrance. It's a bit dusty from vetiver.
It stays on the skin for 12+ hours, and it stays on the clothes until you wash it.
Dawn will be around you, but it's not too strong so it can be worn at slightly higher temperatures without bothering anyone.
I am very happy to have this masterpiece and to finally have a full Desert Gems collection.

The Oud Masterpiece
The Night smells similar to Portrait Of A Lady. But patchouli was replaced by Oud.
The same rose was used, so that POAL trademark is present.
The opening is absolutely animalic, but through all that animalic Oud - you can feel the POAL rose from the very beginning.
It’s not as loud as I thought it would be. The opening is “too fecal” only if you haven’t tried other FM perfumes so you’re not used to that style. I'm not saying that perfume is light, but don't let some "reviewers" there fool you. This is not an unwearable perfume at all. It’s not exactly for a job interview - but it’s far from an unwearable perfume.
It stays on the skin for about 12+ hours and on your clothes even after washing.

Perfect green fragrance
I was so lucky to test this beauty 4 times in Paris during last week. Still got the blotters.
It's delicious. Green, fresh and long lasting.
It's unique but if I had to compare it with something from the house - I'd say it's Carnal Flower-ish but without Tuberose and Coconut. Basil and Black Currant are working perfectly together.
Definitely unisex. Not that strong but it is very long lasting.
It will be available from September 01. in official FM stores and around September 15. in other fragrance shops.
