Spray and Pray Interlude 02: What to Do After Hearing "You Smell Like My Relative/Ex"

The Scenario:

Single and available, you decide to attend a celebration at a nightclub. You want to smell incredible.

You act with prudence and select a bottle people compliment, or perhaps you own a modest collection and apply your finest scented liquid.

The scent you chose is also popular. For example, as a man, you decide to spray Sauvage, Aventus, or Bleu de Chanel. As a woman, you commit to Libre, Chance eau Tendre, or Delina. Maybe you select a unisex fragrance like Mojave Ghost, Tobacco Vanille, or Baccarat Rouge 540.

When you show up at the nightclub, your friend introduces you to a gorgeous associate.

However, as you swap names and prepare to flirt, the associate says something innocuous but hits like Mike Tyson or a Klitschko brother in their fighting prime.

They say with a smile, “My sibling uses the same scent!

Or worse, they frown as they say, “This fragrance reminds me of my ex.

Where do you go from here?

Acknowledging the Problem:

Nobody wants an awkward comparison to an adjacent relative (i.e..: a parent or sibling) or former lover by anyone they find alluring.

Few people flirt or pursue romantic liaisons with others who remind them of immediate relatives or failed relationships.

Unfortunately, this is a fundamental dilemma with popular fragrances. The association with the scent starts with the other person instead of you.

How to Recover: Own It with Confidence

From experience and observation, the best way to handle the scenario is to have confidence, acknowledge the person in a positive manner, and take ownership of the skin juice.

  • For example, if someone compares your fragrance to a relative, a suitable reply is something like, “Thank you. Style and grace must run in your bloodline.

Follow it up with a genuine compliment. (e.g., the person’s scent, accessory, clothes, etc.)

The response acknowledges you own the scent, while also complimenting the person and their family.

  • For a scenario involving a former lover, a viable retort is, “Your ex has great judgment, aside from letting you go.”

The result is that you take ownership of the scented liquid and compliment the glamorous individual in front of you.

  • If you recognize through non-verbal cues that the beautiful individual despises their former flame, try joking with, “This scent needs positive publicity.

You take over the association and will probably make the person laugh as well.

Conclusion:

Using an uncommon bottle reduces the chance of a comparison to a sibling or former flame. This is more notable if you know multiple people that use the same best-seller you own.

However, the top priority for wearing any skin juice is how it makes you feel.

If a scent improves your resolve and confidence, it will not matter if everyone you speak with recognizes the fragrance from another person.

If the scented liquid you apply combines well with your body chemistry and creates an olfactory nirvana, use it.

Whether it is popular or uncommon, make the fragrance yours! Wear the scent with confidence, and everything else will fall into place.
