Long live the king!
Where should I start with a legend like this, about which so many clever minds have already said so many wonderful things?

Should I complain about the fact that he no longer exists?
Should I complain about how something so beautiful can be taken off the market?
Should I complain about the high prices?

None of this would even begin to do justice to this masterpiece, this legend, this king of men's fragrances.

And what is "Patou pour Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Jean Patou" more or less than the best, most loved and most sought-after men's fragrance of all time by all the enthusiasts?

Heavy words - but they are true.

"Patou pour Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Jean Patou" is the perfect blend of dark and light tones, of spicy, striking masculinity and gentle elegance, of class, style and edginess.

It begins with a dark woodiness that makes me think of myrrh - this pleasant note lasts a long time, runs through almost the entire fragrance and gives it that certain something.

The whole thing is underlined by a spicy yet gentle note that reminds me of incense - but don't worry: the whole thing is not at all sacred, rather noble and soft - and it quickly blends into a shaving-foam-like, masculine, elegant mixture that gives that certain something even more certain...

"Patou pour Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Jean Patou", like all great fragrances of the time, lasts forever - we are talking about 10 to 12 hours with decreasing but always perceptible sillage. Here, the room is not flooded as with "Kouros (Eau de Toilette) | Yves Saint Laurent" and you don't have to hide in the office for 3 hours until it is also pleasant for others.

"Patou pour Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Jean Patou" is a masterpiece that rightly has the status of a legend and that you literally have to spend half a lifetime looking for in good condition - and then you have to dig deep into your pocket.

Is it worth the money then?

I say YES.
But whether the fact that I have been looking for it for so long plays a psychological role is probably undeniable, but at least it doesn't play the main role - the quality and durability play at least an equal part.

"Patou pour Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Jean Patou" is and remains unrivaled, a legend, the king - and I can only congratulate anyone who can call it their own

Opulence, depth and happiness
Murano glass, gold and a little chain: you can see from afar where this is going - at least that's what I thought when I saw the bottle for the first time.
And when I smelled the spray head, I was confirmed: beautiful, soft and lovely - nice, but not mine.

But as is so often the case, first impressions are deceptive. Fortunately, I gave him a chance, and he used it to play his way into my heart.

"Rococò | The Merchant Of Venice" starts soft and sweet, almost like a fine sun cream. Tonka and cocoa harmonize magnificently, gentle hints of flowers play into it - it is completely pleasing, almost TOO pleasing for me.

After half an hour, I want corners, edges and depth - and all that comes, but it takes another half an hour.
Then a door opens and "Rococò | The Merchant Of Venice" shines in all its glory: a light animalic (don't worry, it completes the picture completely), clove and a slightly resinous note interweave with the soft and gentle notes to create a beautiful painting, drawing an opulent picture of generous beauty, exuberant power and bright energy - and this phase of the fragrance lasts a long, very long time.

Longevity and sillage are definitely great - but "Rococò | The Merchant Of Venice" is not a space-filler that cries out for attention - but it gets it. This fragrance is well received, lasts a long time and makes you feel happy all round.

I'm glad I gave it a chance - "Rococò | The Merchant Of Venice" is now a fixed star in my collection.

Royal
What is meant by the term "royal"?
It stands for royal - most of us probably think of the British royal family.

Royal, British, elegant - men and women of the world who seem to be at peace with themselves, who can't be ruffled by anything, who are always in control of the situation.

Nothing loud, nothing unrestrained, nothing simple - noble and confident.

And this is exactly how "Fougère Royale (2010) (Eau de Parfum) | Houbigant" presents itself: incredibly noble and refined, pleasantly restrained, without appearing weak or awkward in any way.

"Fougère Royale (2010) (Eau de Parfum) | Houbigant" is not loud like many of its contemporaries - it is refined and suave. The longevity and sillage are in the quieter range in keeping with the theme - it lasts a whole working day without flooding a room. It is easily perceptible at arm's length and exudes a feeling of serenity and security.

With "Fougère Royale (2010) (Eau de Parfum) | Houbigant" I feel elegant and self-confident, always in control of the situation and at the same time unobtrusive and confident.

"Fougère Royale (2010) (Eau de Parfum) | Houbigant" was the first fougère and this timeless elegance can also be felt in the current version of this classic.

A must in every collection of a man of stature

Better than the ex
I have to stretch a little to describe what Ambre Sultan means to me.
Last winter, I fell in love with Grand Soir | Maison Francis Kurkdjian - hard. Those spicy, warm and soft components combined with a heaviness, a weight that I hadn't known before - and it took me back to my grandma's kitchen...
I loved smelling its spray - only unfortunately I lacked the appropriate occasions to wear it.

Then someone messaged me on Parfumo asking if I could part with it - and I said yes. And then I was sorry.

How could I let this heavenly, but hard to wear fragrance go like that?!

I villain!

There might have come opportunities to get to know each other better...

And then I got to know "Ambre sultan (Eau de Parfum) | Serge Lutens".
And that has hit me like a bomb.
Spicy, warm, soft - so much weight.
Like "Grand Soir | Maison Francis Kurkdjian", only more masculine, sensual - and wearable!

"Ambre sultan (Eau de Parfum) | Serge Lutens" starts right away with this warm spicy orientalism, which accompanies him all the time - and after a short time a special feature creeps in, a tone that can be better described with the English funky than with the German Animalik, because it hits it less.
"Ambre sultan (Eau de Parfum) | Serge Lutens" is not animalic, but he has this fresh, incredibly exciting note, which some here in the forum with the fur of a cat describe.

Please don't be put off: this is really just background and perfectly integrated.
But just this twist makes "Ambre sultan (Eau de Parfum) | Serge Lutens" so incredibly pleasant, so exciting, so exciting - and so wearable!

"Ambre sultan (Eau de Parfum) | Serge Lutens" is for me a perfect fragrance for cold days.
A classic, which rightly has its permanent place on people's shelves for almost 30 years - and for me an absolute stroke of luck, because he has not only made up for my "loss", but still far exceeded!

What took you so long?
What is the best way to start a review of Ormonde Man?

"My name is Hero Father - and I love long walks through the woods?"

No - that sounds kind of cliché...

"As a child, I loved to rub pine needles between my fingers?"

Kind of silly, too.

Then so: pretty much at the beginning of my fragrance journey, there was "Oud Wood (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford" - and I thought it was good.
But not VERY good and - and this is the main argument against it - my wife hated it.

But it was so nice and woody and kind of cozy.... No? Well, don't.

Since then, I've been on the lookout for a woody scent - not too synthetic, not too intrusive, not too whacky, just round and pleasant.

In vain. And then came Ormonde.

My goodness, it's good! Green, woody, resinous and pleasing - not a bit intrusive or annoying. You HAVE to like it!

I automatically think of a walk in the woods - or cut wood from coniferous trees.
Or of my childhood, when I loved to rub pine needles between my fingers (I still do...).

Sound whacky? Kind of, but it's not a bit. "Ormonde Man (Eau de Parfum) | Ormonde Jayne" suits all occasions, all seasons and all types.

Just good and pleasing, pleasant and - finally! - a wood fragrance, which is also well received at home
