Soft sandalwood and vanilla perfect for casual day
I love casual and down-to-earth scents which convey feeling of being outdoors, but many of them are so harsh and chemical. Gypsy Water is such a beautiful exception in this category. The scent is a natural, soft and creamy combination of woods and vanilla spiked with ever-green needles and juniper berries. It has a perfect balance of being casual but not boring, linear but not simple. Gypsy Water is my jeans and sweater companion to cuddle with on cold November nights. Lovely, easy to wear and natural, I could never go wrong wearing this scent.

The lemon and bergamot opening makes me think of a windy day outdoors – refreshing and natural. Yet, right away, the warm rays of sandalwood and vanilla shine through the scent making it soft and comforting. The iris adds just a touch of powder and pine-tree and juniper berries keep the composition winter fresh. The scent has a bit of a linear quality but it does not bother me at all, as the composition is absolutely lovely. It is a soft scent, which makes it a great every day casual scent. And though it is quite light, it does lasts for hours.

Gypsy Water is not the scent that will shock you with its super complex composition or fireworks of notes. But it is a scent that I will take with me on a winter skiing trip, a walk in the park or everyday at work. It was such a pleasure to wear that I finished my sample in no time and now craving for the full bottle. Overall score is 8.5/10

Golden Necklace
When the nights grow long and cold, I always look for a nice scent to lighten up my mood. Cinema is one of those scents. It smells gorgeous mixed with the cold air when its honeyed floral notes are balanced by the chilly weather outside. Cinema is smooth and comforting but it is not a scent that I just want to cuddle with while reading a nice book on a stormy night. It is great for a night out when I need something more sophisticated than just a straight up vanilla gourmand. Cinema is very attractive and elegant scent. She is not an eccentric diva but a woman who is classy, considerate and warm.

The composition is largely based on the sweet honeyed notes and vanilla but I also like how it brings the sensual beauty of jasmine in the mix. After the quick fresh spring flowers opening, the scent transforms into this beautiful sweet floral scent which stays linear but quite lovely surrounding me with its smooth golden wrap. Nothing is out of place here. It is like a nice, well-made evening gown, which looks classy and beautiful without revealing too much. As the scent transforms into a dry down stage, it continues to be smooth and sweet while vanilla, benzoin and amber take over. The scent lasts for at least 7 hours and has decent projection. Few sprays last all day.

My overall score is 8.5/10. This scent is pure luxury. If gold had a scent, I think it would smell like Cinema. I recommend it if you are looking for a nice, smooth vanilla oriental scent. It is not there to shock you but it is reliable, elegant and easy to wear.

Sugar Overdoze
This is a Hollywood version of a can-can dancer with pretty smile and bubbly blond curls. The fragrance is cute, flirty and playful. It is also super-sweet, so it is only for those who love sweet-tooth perfumes. The nectarine and blackcurrant fruits were processed to a state of a jam. Wild orchids are not so wild, but rather made of sugar. And the dry down smells more like a vanilla cake. I do prefer it to other celebrity scents though. It does smell synthetic, but not as loud and unpleasant as many other scents in this category. The scent is quite strong, but it only lasts on me a few hours.

If you like sugar bombs and are not looking for natural smelling perfume, I would recommend Can-Can. I think it provides good value for the money. Overall score 6/10.

Good Girl on a Tropical Vacation
Good Girl Gone Bad is a romantic blend of roses and tropical flowers. It is lovely, feminine and carefree. Nothing “gone bad or wild” here. The scent is well-behaved and easy to wear despite its strong and distinct floral notes.

I have to give credit to Kilian for taming the rose, tuberose and jasmine in this scent and making them behave nicely and civilized in this composition. The flowers are noticeable but not heady or suffocating. It is like their essence is mixed together in a lovely and light tropical mist. The osmanthus adds sweet fruity notes in the beginning. The rich cedar base apparent right from the start and adds a nice dimension to the scent. The composition is not complex, but it is lovely and elegant. The sillage is moderate, which in this case, I appreciate – no need for a floral composition to be overwhelming. The longevity is decent – at least 7 hours.

Overall score 7.5. Is it a unique scent that ignites my imagination and leaves me craving for me? No. But I do like that it is easy to wear, well-balanced and feminine. I wore this scent to work on a nice summer day and I liked the image it projected. The only draw-back is a price-tag. Kilian has a lovely bottle and the scent is nice, but the pricing is just so expensive.

A bouquet of hyacinths on a cool spring day
When spring arrives I spend hours in my bulb garden enjoying the beauty of first flowers poking their way through the damp earth towards warmth and sunshine. The gentle spring flowers always fill my heart with so much happiness and joy. Weekend by Burberry captures this feeling of being outside on such a lovely spring day. It captures the cool air, brilliant blue sky, floral freshness of spring flowers and tenderness of greens. It is sparkly and airy, innocent and happy. It is something that I crave to wear to celebrate the arrival of spring.

The scent opens with a crisp and cool citrus and tender spring flowers. There is a slight fresh linen accent, which makes this scent clean and airy. I was pleasantly surprised to discover a nice bouquet of hyacinths in the heart notes. I grow hyacinth every spring and quite fond of them, but don’t see them very often as a prominent note in perfumes. I can definitely detect it here, layered with other spring floral notes, and playing hide and seek with me. At times it is not there and then, like a spring breeze, I get this fresh, a bit heady and strong, hyacinth scent wrapping around me. The cyclamen and peach blossom are also lovely in this perfume. The iris adds the soft and powdery accent towards the base.

I find that the sillage is strong, even overpowering if overdone, but the longevity is not that great. It disappears after 3 hours on me.

I would recommend Weekend to those who love romantic spring floral compositions. Overall score 7.5/10.
