Indominable

I remember the commercials when this came out. I liked the bottle so much when I saw it, I bought it without even testing it out. In a years time or so, it was gone and I forgot about it. Flash forward to 2001, I find a huge lot of Gucci Nobile products at an estate sale. I snatched it all up. Body wash and sprays, soap on a rope, deodorants, shaving cream and splash too. I absolutely adore this scent, it is the quintessential man’s cologne. A suddenly sharp but clean barbershop medicinal smell, it soon turns sweet and much gentler. Afterwards there’s this incredibly deep woods smell, sort of wet and smooth. There’s still nothing else quite like it. It’s amazing. 20+ years later and I have half of a 120ml bottle left and a 30ml bottle. If Gucci brought this back today, it’d probably sell very well. I just don’t think they’d get it quite right again.

I wonder what’s going on at Creed. I have a vintage 2014 bottle, and one from 2020. The similarities are few. The older version lasts so much longer, and is more deep in the oud and woods smells. The newer batch doesn’t last more than 4-6 hours before I reach for a for a refresh. It’s also very lacking in the musk. I was hoping it was me. I went to several different stores for some different testers sprays and it’s all the same. I’m so glad I have an older formulation, it’s just better in every way. I’m looking for a better alternative, and will revise this review when/if I find it.

Super synthetic, the aldehydes really waft forth upon first spray. HOWEVER, it settles down quickly and you can smell the bergamot and citrus notes. 15-20 minutes and the woods and flowers arrive. 30-45 minutes out and the musk smooths it all out. I get compliments with this a lot. Sillage is decent and I can smell it 4-5 later without having to bathe in it. Since I live in a hot desert clime, this juice is essential in the summer. The best part is the price. I have a 200ml at home and and a 100ml in my gym bag. One of the very few heavy synthetics I like.

Wow. First spray is identical to Gucci Nobile. So much so in fact, I was astonished. I have several bottles of GN, so I can compare throughly. 20-40 minutes later, and Jo Malone Grapefruit turns more fizzy citrus. There’s a slight candy smell that is delicious. A few hours later and it settles into an amazing candied fruit smell, it’s great and lasts all day. I actually prefer this over GN, it’s way more versatile and can be worn in all seasons. It truly does straddle the unisex line, any confident person can wear this knowing they smell amazing. It sure does get compliments and questions too. Love it.

First spray I get a peppery citrus smell. Go easy, it’s strong and lasts all day. An hour or so and the rose and leather pokes its way out in a nice way. The oud is a nice anchor, and helps tie it together perfectly. Another masterpiece from HOS, as there is nothing out there that smells quite like this. It last all day, and is perfect for evening engagements.
