Where there is shadow, there is light!
Many tested fragrances from my collections or those I own would also have deserved my first comment and it is simply due to the fresh release from AMOUAGE that I now choose the new flanker "Interlude Black Iris Man".

Foreword: It is not so long ago that I started my fragrance journey - August 2019 - and since then I am completely addicted to this hobby and Parfumo is my new daily companion! And although I haven't been around as long as many of you, I am very positively surprised by the community and have already made some great contacts and I am very happy about the exchange! Of course, I am describing my impressions here and not everybody will share them, but please be constructive and gracious anyway. There is no such thing as the perfect comment and it's the variety of statements and comments that adds color to the picture - so learning by doing ^^

Quite quickly I came into contact with the house of AMOUAGE at the beginning of my journey and was thrilled - why? "Reflection Man" became my first fragrance to move towards niche fragrances and I still associate a very special feeling with this fragrance. It should not stay with one and I threw myself on many others out of the house. Interlude, Epic, Lyric, Memoir, Myths, Sunshine, Jubilation etc. followed and you can really say that a wide spectrum is covered here. The fact that AMOUAGE is still a perfume house from Oman brought a special spark to it (directly seemed more exotic than all the designers). At some point I also grabbed the original "Interlude Man" and if I had to choose two fragrances from Amouage today, then Reflection & Interlude. Accordingly, my curiosity was high when I saw the trailer of "Interlude Black Iris Man" in early May this year. The first flanker and already the original had more than overwhelmed me so far - an exquisite exotic.

The past week was therefore all about the new fragrance, as I had also been in possession of a bottling since Tuesday - greetings go out to the very friendly contact - and was able to test it extensively. Also the complete Sunday again in direct comparison with his more adult and stronger brother.

If you know the original Interlude, you know how much power is in this monster at the beginning - brute spice with oregano wrap! A deep, warm and oriental feeling spreads, because this guy shines like nothing! This "Blue Biest" is not so easy to tame and I was looking forward to exactly this power in combination with the Black Iris.

Well, in the new flanker we have rosemary and violet leaf in the head instead of oregano and allspice, and you are welcomed more gently here, even if the thought came to my mind during the very first spraying: "This is 95% of the originals - no difference! Yes, at the beginning both are very close to each other and only in direct comparison you can feel the small but more intensive pinch of the original. Nevertheless, the new one also starts explosively smoky, even if it feels a spark less than the original. Black Iris is noticeably softer. I had already considered whether this would be an Interlude with a Dior Home-touch as far as the Iris is concerned, but that's actually not the case. You can safely forget about the remarks. The "Black Iris" is staged here wonderfully soft and powdery soft and gives the whole fragrance a pleasant and light feeling, although it's still not a really light fragrance - nevertheless it feels more wearable right away. Really beautifully balanced as I find and lets you look deeply, because in the further course of the fragrance both separate in the end. Interlude stays spicy-deep and warm on my skin whereas the Black Iris has vanilla in the heart as well as the iris and it makes sure that the iris not only stays soft and smooth but also gets sweet - I never thought it would get so powdery-sweet afterwards. Nevertheless, both are still very smoky - crazy, right? The Black Iris at least achieves a more impressive development and pushes the smoke more quickly into the background.

In Base, the usual suspects continue to play their role excellently - more or less. Iris and vanilla make the difference. You can compare it bluntly to a gaming headset with a controller for voices/game sound. With Interlude the game sound is 100% and Voices is muted and with Black Iris you have both 50/50, i.e. Voices as new impulses, but you still feel that there is something in the background. Later the ratio drifts further towards Voices. 40/60 and 30/70.

In terms of durability/silage both fragrances convince me! Loosely 6-8 hours at least and the silage crushes all scents in the nearer surroundings!

So why my title, "Where there is shadow, there is light"? Very simple: "Interlude Black Iris Man" is in my opinion definitely in the shadow of its older and bigger brother, but it knows how to give impulses in the form of iris and vanilla with its "more pleasing" style and I connect this with "light". In any case he doesn't have to hide behind his predecessor and certainly doesn't want to do so.

In the end, I would like to state that this was or is NOT a duel - there is really no question of that. Both know how to flatter with their merits and as always, YOUR personal preferences decide!

Amouage has made a grandiose Oriental a bit more suitable for everyday use and I ask myself the question "Why of all things a flanker and not a new, independent fragrance? - How do you see it!?

I don't see either of you as must-have if you already own the original. Unless you consider yourselves absolute Amouage enthusiasts

If the Interlude DNA is completely foreign to you, I strongly recommend that you test it beforehand !!

Thank you for your attention and LG, Lucas
