Bright and joyful
Perfumer: Quentin Bisch…end of review…bye!
I mean, what else you need to hear to understand this perfume is a gem?
When I bought the brands sample set, I loved all their perfumes for their elegant and refined character, but somehow my mind stuck to this one!
This is a fruity-woody-gentle green perfume. It has a greenness from cypress, davana and fig leaf and the sweetness of the fig fruit. Davana also enhances the fruity character. The base is woody and its prominent as it settles. Its borderline sweet and green on a creamy woody base with some tonka touches at the drydown. For me, this perfume has a perfect balance.
Overall, its bright, joyful, discreet, elegant, well balanced and a little gourmandish.
When I wear it, I imagine waking up to a house by the beach, while the sunlight starts to warm the atmosphere and I feel a sense of euphoria.
I see people comparing it with phylosykos and figuer by Armani. From what I remember, those are more leafy green, while this one has the sweetness of the fig fruit which is similar to Gris Charnel (only the sweetness-NOT THE SMELL). So, if you love fig, you will definitely enjoy this perfume.
The longevity is around 6-7 hours, it’s totally unisex, for every occasion and preferably for spring and summer. Here in Greece, that the weather is hot most of the year, when I’m exposed to the sunlight, this perfume emanates from the skin and I feel its joyful character.

Hot Caramel Macchiato
Theodore Cabanels story in perfumery dates back in 1893. Caroline Ilacqua inherited the perfume house and as she states “I want a perfumery that is joyful, uncomplicated, accessible, transparent and clean. A perfumery that makes you smile”. That is exactly what Café Cabanel does. It makes you smile.
This perfume has a very sensual, elegant and charming gourmand smell that you keep sniffing it because you cant get enough of it.
It opens citrusy with lemon and mandarin (tangerine) and at first I was like “did they put another perfume inside? I was promised a gourmand”. After a bit, this intense citrus smoothens up but it never totally goes away, giving the fragrance a slight booziness. Immediately after, the coffee note with hints of cinnamon gets in the game. The coffee, is not the dark nutty coffee we are used to and that is so good because you don’t smell like a walking coffee machine. It is a smooth almost silky coffee note, like the sense of coffee in a caramel macchiato. The milk, butter, caramel, vanilla and tonka bean give a sweetness and creaminess to it, while the florals (Bulgarian rose and heliotrope) add a floral warmth. Overall, all the notes are so beautifully blended together and I get a sweet "boozy-like" gourmand.
The longevity and silage are moderate on me and that’s a bit disappointing because I really cannot get enough of this scent. I had to spray 3 times during a day in order to smell it all day on me. But generally, perfumes don’t last so much on my skin, probably because I m a walking nerve.
I expected this fragrance to be a brown warm sweater, but it turned out to be a white silk shirt.

This perfume has a very sensual, elegant and charming gourmand smell that you keep sniffing it because you cant get enough of it.

Medicinal florals
When I smelled this one I was like meh…but when I did a full wear, I was enchanted and needed a bottle ASAP!!
This perfume opens with intense white floral scent, mostly ylang ylang and Jasmine and some bergamot. There is a slight touch of rose which is hardly detectable since the white florals are very bold. Also it’s is a bit incency from the myrrh and the yummy vanilla gives a creaminess to it. The patchouli is not detectable by me and I wouldn’t understand there’s any if I didn’t see it in the notes!
This scent, like side effect, is a part of carnal blend collection of Initio and I can totally understand why. Both of them have a medicinal smell which is very addictive making people who smell you not want to get away from you! When you wear them, you are magically transformed into the most addictive drug!
I wasn’t a fan of floral scents but this one got me under its spell. I already have side effect and oud for greatness and I have Rehab on my wishlist, but I really need to try more of this brand.

Coffee rose oud fragrance with a twist
Juicy grapes and bluberries laid on a coffee-rose-oud base, creating a gourmand rose-oud fragrance with a twist.
It opens synthetic but this is how blueberries and grapes taste so it doesn’t bother me…After some time, this characteristic fades and you get a coffee rose oud scent with some fruits at the background! It is a very bold winter scent totally unisex.
Performance is not just amazing…it is nuclear! If you like coffee scents and search for an Intense cafe scent, you just found it! Intense cafe by Montale is very similar but lacks of coffee in it…that’s why they also released ristretto intense cafe which has a bit of cafe in it. This one is more bold and potent!
It opens synthetic but this is how blueberries and grapes taste so it doesn’t bother me…After some time, this characteristic fades and you get a coffee rose oud scent with some fruits at the background! It is a very bold winter scent totally unisex.
Performance is not just amazing…it is nuclear! If you like coffee scents and search for an Intense cafe scent, you just found it! Intense cafe by Montale is very similar but lacks of coffee in it…that’s why they also released ristretto intense cafe which has a bit of cafe in it. This one is more bold and potent!
Good idea poorly executed
I went to Zara the other day and this one winked at me at the counter. So I grabbed it, thinking about all the good reviews I read about it. It is cheap so if I didn’t like it, I could wear it at the gym.
And I dare to say that my expectations weren’t met.
There are 3 notes listed in it, pink pepper, clove and ebony wood. What I expected, was a sweet spicy warm woody scent. What I got, was a bitter citrusy woody scent.
It opens very citrusy and bitter almost like it has grapefruit or bergamot together with some pink pepper. Pink pepper is a spice but also has a rose-like feeling in it, which adds a bit of sweetness. This citrusy scent luckily fades within 15 minutes and the cloves and the ebony come out, giving some mildly sweet woodiness to it and justifying the name of the perfume. The scent at the dry down, is a well balanced mix of clove and wood. The woody part lasts for about an hour on my skin. It really does not last on me at all. I ve read about 5-6 hours but not on me. It’s a skinscent to me and it does not project.
Overall, it has the Jo Malone character, this elegant, delicate, effervescent, airy character. It’s a good idea which, if it was more potent, it would be perfect. I hope they understand that and fix it. Until then, I will wear it at the gym, before bedtime or spraying the bedsheets.
