Aramis Havana
Tobacco frag-heads unite! An amazing cocktail that hasn't lost anything over the past 25 years. I always recommend this one first to anyone looking to start wearing a masculine tobacco that works during all seasons.

Opening - A strong, stiff, spicy backhand to the jaw
Middle - Cruisin' with your lady!
Finale - Relaxed confidence

Viva Aramis!

4.5 stars.

November 2020 update - I finally picked up a vintage bottle (blue frosted glass). Current gray market average is between $80 and $150 (yikes)...I waited for an auction on Ebay and got mine for $40. Vintage juice is 99% the same as current, with only the opening being a bit smoother. After 5 minutes, they are the same. Current version of Havana can be found online for $20 (100ml).

Ralph Lauren Polo Green
De rigueur for every mature man during any season. Even re-formulated, Polo Green still has that presence that just "smells good."

Forget about blue, red, black, purple and go GREEN. The only other RL frag that is distinct and comfortable to wear virtually any time is Safari for men.

Stand tall, grow your beard, dust off your boots, pull the trigger at least 4 times and walk the walk.

Polo Modern Reserve
I really love Polo Green, so now for my totally un-biased opinion! Modern Reserve is just that, a modern update on the original. Definitely more floral in the middle notes with less blunt force in the dry down, where Benaim subs a pleasant suede accord in place of the ashy tobacco and leather.

Where Polo Green is swinging sledge hammer tire strikes wearing a burgundy turtle neck / navy blazer / leather jacket...PMR is a picnic near a meadow, sipping brandy from the flask burrowed in the breast pocket of your Belstaff motorcycle jacket. I dig it...

Montana Parfum d'Homme
Montana Parfum d'Homme (Vintage red box) -

This fume is a no-brainer to add to the wardrobe of any fans out there of Aramis Havana (like me). The familiar bright and refreshing aldehydic opening link the two immediately, with Montana favoring a shade of 80's oakmoss and Havana shooting a spicy rum floater.

As they progress, Montana steers its suit towards a well heeled zip code while Havana refuses to put out its cigar and break up the pool party.

Montana is a men's fragrance of 80's construction (1989) that wears very easily and modern. This one would be a great entry point for anyone wanting to experience a bit of vintage, add versatility to their wardrobe, and not break the bank. The 125 ml vintage formula can be found online for around $50.

Drakkar Noir
Drakkar Noir (Vintage Cosmair) -

Imagine what the legacy of this fragrance would be if the bottle wasn’t jet matte black and the power broker marketing didn’t club you senseless with the excessively brash “noir-ness.”

What you would have is a completely different perception of this “barbershop” aromatic fougere. That’s right - barbershop - minus the talcum powder.

Constructed around a dizzying number of well blended accords, it’s all in there - the lavender, the bitter herbs, the florals, the oakmoss / leather. Like a fresh shave!

Make no mistake, the vintage is powerful - 2 to 3 sprays and you will be good for 12 hours or more - so with some discretion, you can easily wear this in any setting or season.
