A Scent, A Red Kiss and a Golden Lipstick
Sometimes seeing and reading things that I read, I think that I’m writing in a sea of broken noses. That's especially true for reviewers who sniff with their eyes and prejudices, rather than their sense of smell… even more so in US reviewers, where Guess must be a reviled brand; paradoxically in my country the opposite happens. The truth is that I usually find it funny as brands that are tacky here, are exalted there and vice versa.

Anyway… Beyond social prejudices or the subjectivity of tastes, find out some facts of this release:

This fragrance has an alcoholic opening in the first seconds, which soon fades: This is the only drawback that can be said, because from here, everything else only gets better and better… Subsequently, all that comes is a truly delicious smell and it’s precisely at that moment when you check the label and see that it clearly says “Guess”.

When I tried it in store along with all the new releases from all the brands, I was unmistakably amazed at what was coming out of that red bottle's atomizer. So no, it's not a good fragrance for its price; what it is, is a good scent for any price range (of designers).

The fragrance opens citrusy and fruity with a delicious fresh and creamy sweetness balanced with fig and cinnamon. Soon the kumquat, orange blossom and geranium come into play, keeping the composition vibrant and sparkling. When vanilla, sandalwood and amber gain presence gradually increasing their prominence, the piece is completed in an excellently composed and executed olfactory conjunction.

It’s versatile, attractive, vibrant and seductive… but also addictive. That’s important! Because if a fragrance tires you, it doesn't matter how good an initial impression it makes, right?

Average projection, +/- 8h, nice bottle, good atomizer... At Guess they have done all their homework. If you also find it cheap in your country, I don't know what you're doing wasting the time to go buy it.

Gone With The Smoke
There’re difficult reviews, which need more time than others… This took until the cold came again and I pressed the spray; I ordered another backup bottle right now and started this text.

Well…. the smell: Smoked and dry leather, burned on a dark and dense wood.

It may not sound like a desirable fragrance - and I get it -, but I find it fascinating.

… Add soft notes of bitter coffee and cocoa with a subtle plum hidden between saffron and incense: Voilà! That’s it.

It’s clear that it isn’t a perfume for everyone. Okay. But It's mysterious, it has style… And it’s also different and daring.

TL Oud Noir is perfect to wear with a black leather jacket, and seriously: This fragrance makes many famous leather perfumes smell like children's lollipops.

For the cold: Solid projection & duration, a winner without qualms; not for fearful hearts, this is a rebel perfume.

The quality is the best of designer and right now it’s available at a ridiculous price (…). This one and Oud Blanc are the most exclusive releases from Ted Lapidus, so it’s a special aroma, yes… but it ends up becoming very addictive.

So wear it at your own risk. Or not… Who cares? I already have my backup bottle, so about your relationship with this perfume: “Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn".

Blue Wash, Baby
Another interesting proposal from Lagerfeld, which I’ve been enjoying since its release.

In a market saturated with "blue" fragrances that all copy each other, it’s difficult and daring to present a new idea that is not anchored in the past. Here you have one.

I’ve read some complaints - not reviews, this supposes a minimum level of taste and olfactory culture - and I’ve found some people confused with this release. I think they didn’t understand it possibly because it presents a different concept, but in reality it’s a simple idea.

And to keep it simple, I'm not even going to talk about notes; It's much easier than that: What does this smell like..?

Well… This fragrance smells like fresh laundry in the best possible way. - Huh..? - Yes, a fresh laundry that becomes pleasant, comforting and even attractive. As simple as that: That's how it smells, that's the idea.

Expect average longevity and projection - the usual in any fresh fragrance - and a juice valid for almost any situation except formal events, which usually require a perfume with more “intention”.

The scent is fresh, clean and inoffensive, but one that I’ve ended up wearing almost more than any other: Perfect after a shower, for a casual day or at the office, to go to the gym, to stay at home... This always works well.

And there is no need to say any more: A great idea, new, modern and very well done.

I see it as a smell of the future: Efficient and clean.

Scandalous
What can I say about Scandal pour Homme? Well, what is scandalous is the number of compliments I receive with this fragrance… As simple as that.

I don't know how the hype for this doesn't reach the stars - maybe the famous reviewers don't go out at night anymore - because the results in me are frankly scandalous: Pretty much every woman I meet gives me at least one compliment. It might smell especially good on me, but I don't think that's the case.

Let's be clear, I'm not a teenager anymore and I don't go out on that plan. Also, I usually wear a suit (more casual, but I like suits, period) and clearly I don't look like a youngster.

So let's demystify prejudices:

- Some famous reviewers say it's for teens: FALSE. I'm over 40 and I’ve received very positive attention from women under 30, women in their thirties, and women over 40.

- Smells great, but it's generic: FALSE. I’ve tried all the new designer fragrances. None have given me anything remotely similar. The key, and this is the real key, is how it smells in the air… This potion is pure magic.

- It’s extremely sweet and dense: FALSE. It’s very sweet, especially if you smell it in a tester, but when it dries on the skin the scent has an effect that is close to animalic without being so; it remains clean, sweet, creamy and inviting. In addition, the tangerine induces a considerable freshness that lasts a long time.

Fragrance details:

Above-average projection, with a heavy trail and great longevity: The performance doesn’t disappoint. Excellent.

… What else do you want? Do you also pretend it to change your life or revolutionize the world?

Age: Well, I already talked about that. Unisex? Although a woman can wear it, it isn’t a scent that I would recommend at all: There’re much better options for them.

Occasions? For me, this is a perfume that I see exclusively for cocktail parties, clubbing and date nights. Contrary to what many reviewers say, I see it more striking in well-dressed men, not in adolescents (for them I also think there’re better proposals).

So only twilight or night… That’s all. I wouldn’t wear this perfume on any other occasion.

Finally: You can already read the notes of the fragrance, there is nothing special about them apparently. But listen, it gets addictive…

And in my case, the effect is scandalous (like that inspired song by Prince).

Karl's Smooth Breeze
Yes, I’m a Lagerfeld enthusiast and that's why I blindly bought this fragrance. That said, I like this scent especially: It’s very smooth and lovely for the office, perfect as a signature fragrance.

So yeah, I really enjoy it, but I also have to say that it isn’t a fragrance for everyone and the main reason - not insignificant - is that it’s a soft fragrance with a shy projection.

For some office settings it can even be a positive, but because of how good it smells, it usually leaves you wanting more. if this juice had better performance, it would be an amazing “Home Run”.

*UPDATE*: However, I have to say that I’ve received several compliments from different girls when I could barely smell it, so it may be an olfactory habituation effect.

In any case, it's still one of my favorite unexpected releases of this year, despite its performance.

So, synthesizing:

The scent is fresh, woody, slightly herbal, sweet and creamy... And without a doubt very easy to please and smooth like a comfortable breeze slightly sweet.

Longevity is moderate (over 6 hours) and soft projection. It can be used all year round and although it’s mild, on a date it’ll work wonders.

Perfect as a signature scent and feels great with a modern suit: “Suave” is the key here.
