Funny how different scents are perceived. I've been wearing Musc Ravageur all morning and am still waiting for the animalistic, the dirty. What I've got is an elegant, warm vanilla-cinnamon-clove-ceder scent with a slightly citric top note, very pleasant, maybe more for the evening and for colder climates, but not necessarily. Absolutely unisex. A drier, slightly more masculine Shalimar minus incense plus lavender. Recommended for men who like Shalimar but don't dare because they think it's too feminine, for women I would suggest alternatively (a vintage) Shalimar. If you are looking for what is promised here for Musc Ravageur, the hypnotic musk smell of warm skin, you will find it in a very pleasant and also not overwhelming way in Roucel's Dans Des Bras. DAS is also not a stable, but very sexy

A friend of mine brought me a sample box of The Sum Perfumes from the States. All five are very minimalistic, few clear fragrance components. I was especially taken with The Sun Gold. It is sandalwood, sandalwood and sandalwood and a trace of clove that gives all the warmth. The first about half an hour also something that actually reminds me of the smell of earth or clay, also something very slightly metallic, which I cannot classify (could this be a very clean oud?) This something like clay reminds me very much of the light smell in the concept shops of Gudrun Sjöden. I asked a managing director of Gudrun Sjöden if they used a room perfume, she denied that it was simply the smell of the natural textiles in the room: linen and cotton. Linen, maybe. Sandalwood, little carnation, little clay and linen. Wonderful. Very Zen. Elegant. Also very portable. Where in Europe can I get a whole bottle from?
