Over the top

Is the industry going overboard?  When one compares perfume history, the amount of perfumes issued each year is as many as never before.  That then cheapens the product by the law of "supply and demand".  So, the manufacturers hurry to add interest by branching out into the vast flanker sea.

Where will this go?  Right now there is an abundance ...  they cannot sell them, cannot GIVE them away.

In my mailbox samples arrive from Bond No. 9, meanwhile their prices per bottle are too high.

As any item seems more valuable by exclusivity (see auctions of antiques or rare objects), the perfume industry seems headed downward - big manufacturers can survive, small ones are swallowed up or mowed under.

When I fed the Databank with names, I realized how many brands there are.  Whoever seeks to succeed in this industry has to be extra good in creativity, plus a good amount of business acumen to guide along.  Andy Tauer has my respect as he has proven he can do both.

Brave new world.
