Totally underrated
This is a sort of copy&paste of my review for Royal Leather because they do smell very similar. The main difference is the rose and insence notes that are not present in Leather ( the rose is a dry and masculine one ) and the oud note which I beleive gives it the feeling of wet and soaked wood in a sort of alchoolic substance just like the one in Juicy Couture Dirty English, the boozy smell, but in RP it is much stronger. Nevertheless, Royal Platinum does remind Dirty English but here it is fullbody.

I find a little dificult trying to explain what I think about Charriol Royal Leather, and Charriol Royal Platinum, for that matter. But one thing I am sure of it is not the Chanel/Hermes/Dior/Yves Saint Laurent/etc... we all are acostumed to. No, there is something that says very clearly that this is something completely different. And I don't mean that it doesn't smell good, but the whole composition is of anther kind, the approach is not the same, and most of us are not prepared for it, perhaps? Is it nich it leans to? The scent itself is quite inspiring and reminds me of strange foreing places when you first arrive and it smells different from where you come from. It does smell exotic and the saffron note is almost food-like as in a Paella, there is some sweetness from fruit notes, iris and sandalwood/amber,and, of course, the Leather: it is like a piece of leather forniture that has been kept well treated for ages and you feel like loose yourself on it, on its softnes, on its luxurious feel. And when you do that you feel good, you feel richness around you, you feel comfortable. If it smells like TF TL... I cannot tell for I don't know the TF scent, but although it strangeness at first it does smell good, and yes, the bottle is like a $$$ goods. But, for an EDP, it seems to be very weak, is that a trait of nich fragrances, as my Musc Nomade by AG? Although I can smell it hours later it nedds more than few sprays to take off so close to the skin it stays. I paid about US$ 70 for it, and in Brazil, where a bottle of Bleu de Chanel costs US$ 210, it was a good buy. I hope more people take the leap and share their thoughts with us.

A different sort of beast.
Very different from the usual suspects... designers

And the Gods gave us Shalimar ...
As many others have already said, shalimar is a classic, perhaps the most classic of them all, and equaly a work od a genius perfumer. For me is smells more msculine than feminine, what is no surprise after Prada pour Homme Intense, Eau Sauvage Parfum, Burberry Brti for Men, Tom ford noir and many scents in the same oriental veil. Shalimar seems a blueprint for so many scents we all know and that's why I cannot perceive Shalimar as dated, old fashion and even less, praise God, old lady-grandma-ish. No need to go through the notes, it has been done very well indeed by some others. I just think everybody really keen on fragrances should try Shalimar. It is beautiful, it is an art form, it is perfection. I feel very fortunate to own an EDP bottle of this relic and yet so present, uptodate scent that is Guerlain Shalimar.

Shalimar for Men?
I have just received my bottle of Habit Rouge EDT, batch 3Q01 from March 2013, and if the previews versions were better than this one, then it was just made for Heaven and not for human noses whatsoever. Habit Rouge, as a trait of a real Guerlain, opens strongly like Shalimar EDP. Vanilla gets more intense and the added citrus notes make a shift to Eau de Shalimar. All that in a blink of an eye. Then carnation and citrus remind me a lot of a much better version of my actual bottle of Eau Sauvage, and also Boucheron Homme EDP. Most of the notes are the same, and they also follow the same path but in different bays. Eau Sauvage is the most citric of them all. Boucheron is the more aromatic with carnation and rose leaning towards feminine just a bit. However, Habit Rouge has it all, it's a Guerlain and their DNA is the ultimate factor. Habit Rouge is indeed a Shalimar for Men. For those men who are not at ease by wearing a woman's scent just because the label says so. In HR they can feel at home. Well, sort of. That's if you like florals, and are not afraid of them. Rose, carnation and jasmin form one of the forces that hold HR together. The others are the citrus accord, the woody notes, the spices, the sweet vanillas and the leather tone. All these groups are together, side by side, creating their own circles and emanating their waves to the others making HR something like a quadrophonic symphony marring the best piece of music with the best performers with the best technicque and the best acoustics ever assembled together. And that's the present reformulated EDT. I just seem to be unable to separete what's top, middle and base notes, perhaps because I am really breathless. At the end of the show you don't go home on your own. Right after everything has faded, there's still this beautiful lady in your arms. You are going to wake up by her side next morning. Her name is Shalimar.

Summertime all year round.
This came up as a total surprise for me. I bought a tester as I am preparing a Mothers Day basket for my mother. I went through the pyramid and could immediately recognise the tropical fruit accord, mainly a very nice and realistic not so ripe pawpaw. But that is only part of it. It opens like something very Guerlain, of course. There's a hint of L'Heure Bleue, than it turns towards Shalimar Parfum Initial. I mean, now the tropical fruit is well tempered with anise, plenty of it. Although the fruit IS tropical, the Parisian/French atmosphere is undeniable. Lys Soleia is a very sofisticated eau de toilette that can be worn in hot/warm weather without feeling one has to have an eau de cologne because it's hot. The florals smell a bit like a Chanel, in special No 5 Eau Premiere. The musk is very clean and comfortable. Citrus is very discrete. And the vanilla, well, that's pure Guerlain. I don't know if it's because I have been wearing Wonderwood and Encre Noire a lot these days, but I could swear there is some woods in the base. But maybe it is just my nose. Lys Soliea wouldn't scare anyone, even those a bit afraid of tuberouse. I am seriously considering either it is too feminine or not, so my mother would get only the soap and towel?
