Of tropical nights, tuberose & the longing for the distance
When a fragrance carries you far away, it is - especially in the current times - a great gift.

Nothing makes memories come alive as quickly as a smell that you associate with places or experiences. It is, so to speak, the sensual bridge between the images pasted into the mental photo album and the present, the here and now.

When I close my eyes and let Do Son affect me, I perceive superficially the intense scent of white flowers. Slightly sweet and metallic, this smell affects me. Penetrating and clear. There is little else to sniff, perhaps a very light touch of wood and something that reminds me of coconut.
But once apart from the fact that I find this smell overall very pleasant, it transports me at the speed of light to Asia. More specifically, to Southeast Asia.

The day draws to a close, the heat slowly subsides. Dawn comes very quickly, in this part of the world. And that is precisely why it is one of the most precious moments of the day.
The light becomes soft and diffuse. Everything seems to breathe a sigh of relief. It is the time of leisure.

When you are no longer busy escaping the heat or arriving at a particular destination, you become much more aware of your surroundings. And suddenly it's there: the incredibly intense scent of the white flowers growing in the garden of the small guesthouse by the river. They climb up the wall, decorative and yet rather inconspicuous for much of the day. But now - at dusk - they show what they are made of.

I sit barefoot on the porch, in a comfortable rattan chair, the hair still a bit damp from the shower longed for after a long day of travel. The brass fan on the ceiling whirs softly, moving the air just enough to gently cool without having to put a scarf around my shoulders. And it blends the scents around me.

The old wood of the porch, decorated with beautiful carvings.
The coconut oil that I applied thinly to sun-stressed skin after showering.
And of course the scent of small white flowers that can not be confused with anything....

Nothing else. And it is enough.
It's enough to close your eyes, put the open travel diary aside once again and just arrive completely in this moment.

Thank you, Do Son - for these wonderful memory moments!

Of film divas, powder puffs & almond milk
I can only agree with the previous speaker: I too wonder about the so far rather restrained evaluation of the beautiful fragrance "Mandorla" by Ortigia.

I bought it on a happy impulse in a small store in the old town of Vilnius, which drew me inside with its beautifully nostalgic and imaginatively designed window display.

And what can I say: the magic continued inside!
Every single piece of the assortment was chosen with love and great taste. Everything reflected the fine originality of the owner of the store. A woman in her 40s, elegant silk dress, blonde curly bob haircut, posture and gestures of a former stage dancer.

She greeted me in a friendly manner, but then left me completely alone while wandering around in wonder - the perfect mix. Of course, I was drawn directly to the shelf with the perfumes. Two brands led the small store: Ortigia and Papillon Rouge.

Now I must mention that my enthusiasm for the olfactory and the visual almost balance each other. Therefore, I reached very taken to the original flacons of Ortigia with the leopards looking like directly on the glass and authentically hand-painted. Examine (the fragrance is called Mandorla, so almond, perfect) - sniff - hmmmm - spray on...HMMMM. What rises here from my wrist, immediately creates an image in my mind's eye.

That of a film diva of the 30s, who sits in a beautifully printed silk kimono in front of her expansive cosmetics table and applies her expensive powder with all the time in the world and a large soft tassel. Nothing rushes her, the world outside will wait for her. This is a ritual that takes time. Among silver hairbrushes, crystal flacons and powder compacts, there is a tall slender vase with a few branches full of white flowers - almond blossoms that remind her of her last trip to Italy. Next to the vase there is also a small white porcelain plate with fine gold decoration and the delicate almond pastry dusted with powdered sugar, which she also got to know and love on this trip...

The way it smells at this moment in this place: this is how "Mandorla" smells!
The scent envelops me for a good 7 hours, gently withdraws in the meantime, to then unexpectedly rise again in my nose at a certain movement.
He changes thereby only minimally. At the beginning I take a slightly gourmandige almond note, which makes way for a soft never intrusive powder scent after about 2 hours.

"Mandorla" is not a fragrance for the grand entrance, but for the hours before.
In which you take time for yourself and the anticipation slowly grows.
Or still makes a walk at dusk, because just now the flowers in the gardens around smell particularly beautiful.

For this I could not wish for a better companion!

Of autumn afternoons, sweet chai latte & a bouquet of mimosas
My latest love from the house of Jo Malone!

I say it right up front, so that it is pronounced and does not stand in the way of further evaluation: The durability of the fragrance is rather mediocre with me (a common theme with Jo Malone).

BUT - the fragrance itself is simply wonderful.

He fits best for me to a beautiful autumn day.
When it is already cool in the morning and the air is wonderfully fresh.
When the light in the afternoon dips everything in a golden glow.
When you select a warmer jacket for the Saturday market visit and look forward to being able to buy pumpkin again to bake the first Pumkin Pie of the year from it.
When you sit outside your favorite coffee shop with a blanket over your knees and a book in hand, the sun still gently warming but no longer stinging, and your hands close around a big mug of chai latte.

Such a day is made even cozier by the company of Mimosa & Cardamon.
It was through this scent that I discovered my love for cardamon in fragrances. Since then, my eyes flash when I read this note in the breakdown of a fragrance pyramid or perceive it in a perfume. And also the mimosa - which can be a difficult "roommate" because it likes to push itself into the foreground and quickly seems too heavy - is wonderfully balanced here.

The fragrance acts on my skin creamy, warm, floral - and so fine that I do not mind to spray again after about 4 hours.

I look forward to the coming autumn days with you, Mimosa & Cardamon! :)

Night Black & Rose Red
Jo Malone's "VelvetRose & Oud" is now part of my collection for some time.
I bought the first bottle in 2017 from my first "real" salary - and since then the fragrance accompanies me in many beautiful and special moments.

It is not an (all) day fragrance - but something for the evening, the night, a dinner with candles, a Classic Sneak movie night...

For me, it perfectly embodies what I would call stylish sensuality.
Attractive, but not in a loud screaming "look at me!" way, but quietly - like a long look or a whispered promise.

Maybe it's because you never forget your first love - but I have yet to find an oud/rose combination that I find so balanced and intriguing.
And that, although I once had a brief flirtation with a higher-priced and - admittedly - longer-lasting candidate from the house of MFK, which comes up with very similar components.

Possibly it is just the clove missing in "Satin Mood" that keeps drawing me back to my beloved Velvet Rose & Oud. In combination with the just right amount of oud, the dark red-fast-black rose and the praline notes, this spice component in VRO ensures that the fragrance does not slip into the bulky-opulent, which (in my eyes or nose) never goes well with sensuality.

Velvet Rose is exactly what the name promises - velvety. And that from the very beginning.
In the first 3 hours, it surrounds me with a gentle but still easily noticeable sillage, before it nestles close to the skin for another 4 hours or so.

The perfect fragrance for an evening with candlelight!

Of dark spiced chocolate, warm cashmere blankets & the anticipation of winter
This fragrance was for me one of THE discoveries 2021!

I have been looking for a while for a not too sweet chocolate fragrance, in which spices and fine woods also play a role. The chocolate should rather remind of high-quality cocoa than chocolates and in no case "sticky".
Unexpectedly then came to me at a Discovery set of the house "Une Nuit a Bali" this candidate under the nose. Actually, I was looking forward to the rather floral fragrances, since I was looking for a complement to my fragrance wardrobe for the spring at that time...

And then you, Suma.
Sprayed on the wrist, big eyes, pulse acceleration (really, with great first scent impressions makes my heart literally jump ;) ).

Tart dark chocolate, gentle spices - and the promise that there is still a lot to come.
Over the next 6 hours or so, I keep sniffing my wrist and have to smile every time. The fragrance becomes deeper and a bit earthy (hello, patchouli!), at the same time I already perceive quite strongly the vanilla / almond notes of tonka bean in the base.
A constant companion are also the fine woody nuances that keep the fragrance from becoming one-dimensional or too gourmand at any point.

Dreamlike!
And now FINALLY the right season has come to wear it.
On an autumn walk, snuggled up in a cashmere scarf (which still smells of Suma for at least two days afterwards).
Or on a cozy Sunday morning, with a cup of latte with cinnamon, and a good book. ;)

Yes, the autumn can stay with pleasure!
