The literature sums it up
Despite the many advertisements of Jeremy at the time, I have tried this fragrance several times. Maybe it's hard for me to believe that a brand like Dior brings something to the market that can only be described as mainstream, at least after a short time. Unfortunately, I have never been able to cope with the exuberant Ambrox note.
However, when I meet someone who is surrounded by a cloud of this fragrance or one of its many imitators in the chewing gum shower gel segment, I also get the impression that I don't correspond to the target group at all.
After I couldn't find any access to it and moreover so much has been written about this fragrance, I didn't see any reason to write a comment myself until I read the book "How to stop time" by Matt Haig and found a wonderfully fitting description in it, which met my own thoughts so well that I wanted to share them here. Quote:
"Dubai. [...] I'm strolling through a store where a woman wants to spray me with after shave. "No need to thank me," I say, but she disagrees. She sprays the scent, 'Sauvage', on a thin rectangular card and holds it out to me, smiling so emphatically that I take the card and leave. I sniff the piece of cardboard and imagine all the plants from which the fragrance comes, think of how far from nature we live, how much we have to work with nature before we can bottle it and write the word 'sauvage', 'wild' on the label. The smell doesn't do anything for me except headaches."
Concerning the headaches I felt mostly similar and of the mentioned elements from nature I could find mostly little behind the Ambrox.
Despite the headache, the fragrance has found many followers and caused a certain hype, as well as inspiring numerous imitations. I acknowledge this fact with a few percentage points in the evaluation. The durability is better than I wanted it to be at the end of my test runs. The bottle is elegant and beautiful, as you know it from Dior.

A fleeting sportsman
After I absolutely wanted to test the modern classic "Azzaro Chrome", I came across this one among the many other flankers. The combination of positive statements and the really low price led to the fact that I tested it parallel to the original at the same time.

After some tests I can only join Fresh21, the fragrance is indeed "invitingly sympathetic and makes good mood".
After spraying on, the sweeping citrus notes emerge immediately and then this top note unfolds for a brief moment a hint of the original Chrome DNA. The fragrance is briefly but really only very briefly permeated by a slightly metallic-aquatic synthetic, which immediately disappears again. The ginger note unfolds quickly and immediately rounds off the fragrance before it later merges into the soft musk-cedar base. I couldn't find a concise amber note there.
It reminds me much more of "Mercedes-Benz Colgne" or "Dior Homme Cologne (2013)" than of "Versace Man Eau Fraiche". I think with the Versace it has only the synthetic in the prelude in common and that is less pronounced here in my opinion.

Unfortunately, the fragrance has no particularly good sillage and is rather close to the skin. He then stops at my place for about 4-6 hours. With the favourable price one can spray however without hesitation after. I've worn it during sports, but it's good for that, but it's almost a shame. It is nicer to lie in the sun and let the refreshing, friendly scent work. This creates a holiday feeling. :-)

The bottle is quite massive, the sprayer integrated into the cap. I wouldn't describe it as handy and even if the spray head produces a fine mist, it is difficult to operate. After all, the whole thing looks quite valuable.

Altogether Azzaro Chrome Sport is a small insider tip between the Chrome Flankers, which I can only recommend to fans of the above mentioned Colognes

Synthetic Heart
After all the positive comments to this fragrance I was so curious, that I immediately bought my own bottle here in the souk.
After comments like "The balance in person" and "Unobtrusive companion" followed by performances of Southern France, I was very excited. The price for this very favorable smell let me grab immediately to the bottle.
In the meantime I have it some time and could test the smell development accordingly and find out when it is the most pleasant to wear.

First to the fragrance:
Although the prelude is very fresh, the citrus notes can only be guessed for my sensation. The whole prelude looks quite synthetic and actually rather aquatic. In the further process cardamom, mint and sage can be perceived fast, paired with lavender, perhaps also pepper resonates, which I cannot clearly identify however.
The base of musk, sandalwood and vanilla is waiting in vain during the shelf life of this fragrance. I take more than the fresh aquatic herbal synthetics even if the fragrance after about 6 hours close to the skin is not

Since I am not a fan of aquatic fragrances and also do not like synthetic fragrances so much, I have rarely worn the fragrance. I found the only good opportunity to put it on was in sports. There is also a sports version of the fragrance but this is also quite suitable for it.

Perhaps this fragrance has fallen victim to one or the other reformulation since its introduction in 1997, perhaps one has to be a friend of aquatic synthetics in order to determine the balance of this fragrance and to feel transported to southern French landscapes.
Unfortunately he could not achieve this effect with me.

The bottle is really a hand caress and the cap is a nice gimmick. All in all, the fragrance and its packaging are of a higher quality than the price might suggest.
He still has to move out of my collection, but if you feel like synthetic-aquatic freshness with a portion of herbal spice, you are well served with this representative of the late 90s.

Like a day at the lake...
...that's how I feel Varvato's scent. It begins with this citrically herbaceous prelude, which is preserved throughout the entire course of the fragrance, insofar as one can seriously speak of a course at all.
In my opinion, the head note, heart note and base note blur so quickly into each other that at most a course can be seen towards the end, but more about this later.

The head and heart notes combine various citric notes with lavender, marjoram, thyme and ginger. I can imagine some of these scents within this scent mixture, I can't smell them as an independent note, but that doesn't matter either. When I sniff this scent I always think of a day at the lake or on a remote beach at the edge of a forest. The sun shines on bushes and grass, on a meadow this perhaps a few days before was mowed. People lie in the sun a breath of sun cream is blown by the wind... yes one gets immediately desire to lie down in the sun and a light summer breeze around the nose to let blow...

Unfortunately this smell, as already mentioned earlier, quickly runs out of puff, after 2-3 hours it is increasingly only very close to sniff and that gets worse at higher temperatures unfortunately (at least with me).
Now of course you could spray it occasionally but be careful here because even if you hardly notice it when spraying once at the end of the fragrance's shelf life, the base note remains and, as you can see above, it is very synthetically embossed. Last summer I had the feeling that this synthetic base intensified with each after-spray and after two after-sprays on a hot day I suddenly felt the fragrance very severe, almost stinging.
Unfortunately, this experience ruined my scent for the summer, but especially for sunny spring days, which still have moderate temperatures just below 20°C, it is ideal and spreads the first hint of summer days at the lake....

I find the bottle to the fragrance theme successfully designed, as well as various other flacons of Varvatos. In the 75 ml version it is also quite handy.

Sweet and smooth Ferrari from Provence....
The fragrances of the car brands often do not have such a good reputation, which is unfortunately often confirmed in the abundance of fragrances. But there are also some really good exceptions.

In my opinion these here are only partially successful. In the beginning, the Provencal lavender note reminds of Pour un homme de Caron, but is already much softer and sweeter here.
While PuhdC begins with a citric-hot lavender note, the citric part seems to quickly merge into the heart note, at most a hint of cardamom is to be perceived briefly

After a short time the lavender disappears behind the sage and is accompanied by vanilla almost from the beginning of the fragrance. Together with Patchouli, the fragrance becomes very sweet after some time and Ferrari Pure Lavender differs clearly from Caron. While it slides into a multi-layered, smooth vanilla note, the Ferrari simply becomes very sweet and quite synthetic, which gives me a headache after a while. I can't really see the cashmere wood, but I don't want to doubt that it is present in the background of the base note.

While the opening of the fragrance is very promising, the further development of the fragrance is disappointing. Altogether the durability with 8 hours is quite good with me but unfortunately the nice prelude passes too fast.
Unfortunately not a candidate for the collection for me, but if you like it sweet or even gourmandig and don't shy away from a certain synthetics, you should test it once.
