Honey Oud is Here

Recently, I have been editing my perfume collection (seen here http://www.parfumo.com/Users/ScentedSalon/Collection) and have become obsessed with owning an old English perfume. I already had Atkinson’s superb Odd Fellows’ Bouquet, which is one of the best sweet tobacco scents out there, but as I read about Floris in Cult Perfumes: The World’s Most Exclusive Perfumeries, I wanted to own something of theirs, even if I have no way of smelling their perfumes. Luckily, Floris will send you some samples for free from their website and I chose Honey Oud simply because I love oud and thought the notes sounded wonderful.

The notes include vanilla, honey, oud and labdanum. There are others listed but I do not smell anything else. Though the perfume is high quality, is it not terribly complex and reminds me a lot of my favorite Oajan. It has that same sweet and sticky honey note with wet spices but Oajan is much more cloying and wet. Honey Oud does not smell like oud at all but there is a slightly spicy base that hints at darkness. Overall, Honey Oud is a wearable, sweet scent with average sillage and longevity.

According to the Floris website,

Honey Oud opens with a gourmand accord of English honey and vanilla which combine to add a velvet softness to the oud oil and accentuate the rose at the heart of this complex fragrance.
The exclusive fragrance is created with oud oil from a certified sustainable source of agarwood. This oil is among the most expensive in the perfumer’s palette - with deep qualities found in no other oil. It is an opulent, deep sensual note that combines beautifully with rose and sandalwood
.

Perhaps the amount of oud oil is too minimal to be detected or perhaps my nose is not sophisticated enough. In any case, the perfume is done in the British way of restraint and class and the bottle as well as the packaging is stunning. Don’t even think of paying its high price tag: there are great prices listed on ebay. Much recommended if you love sweet fragrances with an edge.

P.S. There is also a Leather Oud in the collection.
