Ray of light - chasing castles in the sky

Sometimes I wish I could feel like a child for just one day…to feel the sun once again, the sea water for the first time. To hear that strange music coming out of that black box that forces us to move… and the safety of our mother's lap, inexplicably natural. Feeling new things are scary, but it is somehow natural, and that what we find strange, can sometimes be mysterious without having any mystery whatsoever. Ignorance is bliss.
Sometimes there are days when we don't want to complicate, when our minds are already doing so many knots that we find ourselves without patience to ruminate our problems. All we need is fresh air and life and sun. We wish we could to go back to our children games and play in the light of cloudless days. Because sometimes we don't even know why or what we're looking for...and that is one of the punishments of “growing up”. The constant turmoil of searching for things we don't even know for sure what… There are no more answers than before, there are only fewer castles in the clouds…But today I accidentally found a ray of light.
There's Iris everywhere, covering a rose that seems shy at first, but that opens afterwards with the effervescent help of the bright aldehydes. It is then followed by a calm musk that welcomes a sweet, spicy and fruity drydown – very dusty – subtle yet present, smooth but noticeable.
In terms of performance I find it satisfying, 2 hours projecting, lingering 6 hours on skin…more than enough.
But the most important thing is not the scent or even the performance itself, the most important thing is what makes us feel ... or rather, what it makes me feel.

Light, birth and rebirth. Spring brings out the metaphysical me, only god knows why ... Days like these makes us believe that everything has a purpose, a symbol, an unfathomable relationship. Today I decided to get my skin acquainted to a swing-era classic. The kind of fragrance that you hear a lot about, but can only be truly known by setting a proper full day “date” and “saving” time enjoying it. This blend of lavender, vanilla and musk, which looks extremely simple on paper (just on paper, i.e. fragrantica, because I could swear I can identify at least three or four more notes in it - citrus, possibly bergamot in the opening, tonka , amber and moss – on the drydown), is anything but. You can even call it minimalist, but not in any way meager or insufficient. Its way more Antonio Carlos Jobim's “One note Samba” and less Sorabji's Opus Clavicembalisticum. Nothing seems out of place. The pieces seem to fit together without being forced: bathed, classic white shirt, windows open to let the day in, all this complemented by the cleanliness, the classic excellence, the simple accessories-free beauty of this prime example of liquid spring calm. Creamy, dusty, fresh and sweet. It makes us feel alive, happy.
I kiss my daughter good morning and she throws me a sleepy hello! back, and suddenly this is all that matters to me as a man, for a man…pour un homme.

Super What?

Is it a perfume? Is it a plane? No, it's Byredo's Super Cedar… sorry, I couldn't resist.
Now, what do you want me to tell you about this "perfume"? I will start with the positives:
Pleasant smell? Check
Funny minimal packaging? Check
Interesting name? More or less Check.
And that's it, because the Super Cedar "kryptonites" are many and strong. Let's start with originality. It smells too much like MS Molecule 01, which only means one of two things, either I have my nose totally wrecked or it's full of Iso E super.
Now, let's talk about performance. Time is the enemy of all linear fragrances, but this one in me is completely "destroyed" in a blink of an eye. 30 minutes after application and the initial, strong, tall cedar trunk turns into a musky toothpick, with notes of vetiver… skin scent is his middle name.
Finally, the price. 110 euros for 50 ml of Iso E super? If EM 01 price is already an outrage, this one is even more “pornographic”. This "super thingy" is nothing more than a little thing pretending that it another thing completely.
