Fishing on the Aegean or Philosykos à la Mugler
If you are absolutely not familiar with the original Angel, you should try this one. I think you'll find that they have very little in common. If it weren't for the typical star bottle, it would be very difficult to attribute the composition to the Mugler company. An experienced nose might recognize the typical patchouli base, which is very much "diluted" here. But that does not have to mean that it is bad. Angel is and remains one of the fragrances that have gone down in perfume history. But in order to keep up with the competition, Mugler has considered sending Angel on a cruise last year. And why not, Chanel finally launched a whole cruise collection.
What is he like, the new Angel 2020?
He's different. Different from the 1992 rod with its monster size and one week durability. It is close to the body and with its 3-4 hours life span it is not a champion in the durability category. The inspiration should have been Brazil. Well, judging by the scent it could have been mMn Greece. Why Greece? Because figs immediately make me think of philosophers.
They also have certain similarities, namely the "milky" accent. While Cruise-Angel smells of fig milk, Philosykos has its creaminess and "milky" quality through the fine coconut note.

I can smell the fig (here rather fig milk) very clearly in the new Angel, already in the top note. It remains perceptible until the scent fades away on my skin.
I don't even notice magnolia. Perhaps because very soon the chocolate note will be added. The scent is linear, which is to be expected with the scent pyramid. I hardly notice patchouli. A plus for those who don't like Mugler patchouli. All in all the scent composition makes a positive impression. It smells summery, fresh, fruity and in a good mood. Yes, it is simple, but sometimes it doesn't have to be complicated. I find that especially in summer such scents are very good to wear.
The edition is limited, as you surely know. If you haven't tested the fragrance yet, it's about time.
From me a clear recommendation to buy, if you like fragrances à la fruit cocktail.

Was the blind purchase worthwhile?
I have already written a statement about this fragrance. But now that a few more hours have gone by, I have to write about it in more detail.
Bois d'Iris was my first blind buy. I don't normally do this, but the price was very tempting. And since the reviews were mostly very positive and the fragrance pyramid promised a nice scent, I actually dared to do it. The scent was ordered and arrived after 2 days. I unpacked it and sprayed it directly on the skin. The excitement was very big - what do I do if I don't like it after all? Maybe it was a bad buy after all?
But what I felt on my wrist was the opposite of disappointment. Something slightly sweet, woody and powdery was rising up my nose. A portion of vanilla - that's what my nose recognized at first (vanilla is not listed here at all, but in other sources it is mentioned in the fragrance pyramid). Something salty... Myrrh... and then this warm white (that's how I imagine this wood) wood appeared, covered with iris powder. Mmmmmmh.
I usually like sweeter scents - lira, grand soir, eau duels... The more vanilla, the better. But there's hardly any sweetness here. But it's this combination of wood and iris that makes the fragrance so cuddly. A nice alternative if you don't feel like a sweet scent.
But the fascinating thing that finally made me write a comment is the durability.
Many complained in numerous comments that the scent would not last long. Believe it or not, but Bois d'Iris has been living on my skin for almost 12 hours now! I sprayed it on last night and still felt it this morning.
Yes, it doesn't radiate that far, the sillage is quite weak, the scent - close to the body. But the durability is excellent.
If you like well-balanced discreet fragrances, but still place great value on good durability, Bois d'Iris is absolutely recommendable. Provided you like powdery scents. Was the blind purchase worthwhile? Absolutely! I am glad to have another iris scent in my fragrance wardrobe besides "L'instant magic".

I fucking love you, I love you not... Damn, I need you, I don't need you..
BR is THE perfume about which there are so many disputes. Some say it's the best they've ever had, while others call it their absolute olfactory nightmare. As for me... Well, the title sentence is right. For me, BR is a love-hate relationship. It's so heavenly beautiful, and at the same time so terribly oppressive - a contradiction in terms. Sprayed more than once, it threatens to slay you. But even if you dose it very sparingly, it accompanies you constantly for several hours. And this is exactly what destroys its beauty for me.
The durability and sillage are outstanding: you can smell it everywhere and all the time: it sticks to the clothes you wear, it goes over to everything you touch, the scent trail follows you wherever you go. Baccarat is everywhere. For some people it may be a great advantage, especially if you are faithful to a single scent. But I like to change my scents more often. And once I've sprayed BR, I can forget all the other scents at least until I've washed my clothes twice and my hair thoroughly.
I once owned a bottle of EdP and at some point I parted with it because the scent had settled so strongly in my nose that it became unbearable.
Now I have tested the extract. It's a little more rounded and not as medicinal as the classic one. But only at the beginning. But in the base they are absolutely the same for me, as well as in durability and sillage.
It probably just needs air, then it shows its beautiful side - you notice it from time to time, so fine and so attractive. In closed rooms, however, BR is too intense and oppressive for me, too dominant. You have to be able to wear it.

Damn it, BR 540 in Extrait, I don't need you. 2ml sample is enough for me to inhale the beautiful scent once in a while

Pure nature
"Gypsy water? What a strange name for a fragrance... what does it have to do with gypsies?" I thought to myself when I first stood in front of the Byredo shelf in a well-known Frankfurt perfumery. Of course I had to test it just out of curiosity. So I took the bottle and sprayed a few times on a test strip. Something citrusy with a good portion of pepper rose into my nose, and the juniper berry was added to it.
After a few minutes I noticed a slight trace of incense. I think incense can very quickly remind you of a church, but the incense here was sooo well dosed and set a fine accent. As the scent settled, the vanilla became noticeable. It brought a fine creaminess and rounded the whole thing off. No trace of chemistry. You could imagine the Mediterranean coast, juniper bushes, lemon trees, somewhere in the distance in a small village stands a small church, it smells like wood... A touch of vanilla ensures that the scent doesn't become too masculine. Applied on the skin it lives about 5-6 hours, around noon I always freshen up. The Sillage is rather modest, the scent sits close to the body. All in all a very nice scent, if you like "natural" scents and don't necessarily like loud scents.
