A soft bed for the queen
I was very curious about this Piguet, because he seems to have inspired the fantasy and love of writing of some commentators. Probably the comments were written during sleepless nights...
(L' insomnuit = sleepless night).
I must confess, after the first spraying I found it disappointing at first: Purple melancholy with a little bit of cream blows towards me. A sighing autumn violet in the mist... That will not rob me of sleep!
Fortunately, after some time the scent picks up speed and unfolds more and more. Behold, the mist clears and the bergamot conjures up a few pale, warm sunrays and the tired violet turns into a fruity sweetness. In the fragrance pyramid there is plum, in my opinion it is more like plum jam.
Plum puree, without spices. More and more the smell is dominated by an intensive flowering, the iris. In the background the oud is discreetly added, bringing wood and a small autumn fire into play. This smells deliciously fruity, quite intense.
But all the time I have the feeling that something is missing...
The perfume gives no satisfaction, no peace. This fruity iris is beguilingly beautiful, but it simply doesn't give you peace...
I often perceive flowers in perfume as "communicative".it's as if they want to laugh, chat, sing, languish, sigh, attract attention.
While citrus scents simply smile and shine, the woods are present in quiet beauty ,and you can wallow in spices.
For my taste a flower must be well "wrapped".
For the feeling "Now it is good and a round thing", the basis is missing. Now that it is developing aromatically bit by bit, the perfume becomes pleasant, round and very appetising.
The plum jam iris queen is, so to speak, a soft bed made of the warm and spicy mixture of tonka, sandalwood, cedar...prepared, she calms down.
Now is the time to gently slumber away, but that would be a pity! Because the fragrance is so beautiful now and lasts and lasts and lasts...
So, off into the night, whatever it may be, (because that's what L'insomnuit was invented for) and let others share in the fragrance. It shouldn't be that hard, the fragrance is noticeable !
As so often, this little fragrance has grown dear to my heart through intensive occupation with it and I don't know if I can live without it...
It simply fits too well into the autumn! :-)

Heaven and earth
No, I don't mean that original German dish with Blutwurst, apple and potatoes. It's about oud. The wonderful scent extracted from the eaglewood tree.
For all those who (like me until recently) do not know : This tree must first be attacked with a special mould. The tree then produces a lot of fragrant resin to protect its wood. This resin saturates the wood and colours it darker.
Et voilà, the oud - scented wood has been created. I don't know how many eaglewood trees are attacked by this fungus, probably not quite as many, because the oud fragrance is very expensive, can supposedly be balanced with gold...
A real treasure, just like the perfume Oud divin (divine oud) by Piguet.
And this is how it smells: When you sniff the sample, you get a feeling of well-being. A warm, woody scent streams towards me. I'd like more of that
So spray it on! At the beginning a very dark, almost "black" smell of wood is noticeable, in addition a light scent of resin.
This initial mix reminds me as
Goldsmith on ebony when it is worked. Not unpleasant, but a little bit strict
Soon afterwards the fragrance becomes softer and milder. The elegant background of dark wood is joined more and more by a subtle, resinous sweetness. The smell of pipe smoke and beeswax is added. The perfume slowly becomes lighter and softer, for a long time the dark precious wood remains as a constant in the background, but more and more the sweetish, smoky "honey resin scent" dominates.
I love it. This perfume doesn't bother me at all, on the contrary. The resin sticks my nose to the sprayed wrist
Seriousness and elegance, but also a quiet, warm sensuality radiates this fragrance, a small "glow of embers".
There's something noble and withdrawn about him. All the time, however, a fragrant little fire crackles and smokes with...
Already a very long time ago, oud was used as "incense" for religious ceremonies to establish or facilitate the connection to the divine.
In aromatherapy, oud is considered grounding, relaxing.
Uplifting and yet very earthy. Yes, that's true of the "divine oud"
Heaven and earth.)

The strange, friendly companion
We are all shaped by where and in what circumstances we grow up. By our relationships with parents and close relatives, friends. By what we experience in our childhood and youth.
All this influences our later life : our later choice of partner ,our relationships, where and how we live...
Of course, in the course of our lives we are also influenced by olfactory factors (i.e. odour).
We get to know smells and unconsciously and automatically associate them with certain memories and feelings. The nose is directly connected to the areas of the brain that are responsible for emotions (limbic system) and memories (hippocampus)
In other words, when a familiar smell enters our nostrils, the same feelings that accompanied us in the situations in which we smelled it return
And this influences, as I could clearly see with this Piguet fragrance, possibly also the choice of the perfume we are willing to spend money on.
Herewith I would like to introduce my new "fragrance companion", the Chai
In fact, it took me a while to warm up with him.
(Although his name is Chai, he has nothing to do with cinnamon, cardamom, anise, nor with any ominous yogis)
Anyway, I found him a little strange at the beginning. He smelled, to my sensation in the first moment after spraying, like a bitter plum. One of those
Plum cake - Plum...
Then there was a somewhat bulky, exotic honey smell. I didn't even sniff any further, and put it aside as strange, but very interesting
After about two weeks I tried it again and suddenly started to like it.
And this is how it smells: It starts with this slightly bitter fruit, which is actually bergamot leaves
So it doesn't get too citrusy. Then also already the honey (beeswax absolute) has his appearance,
nice sweet and aromatic, unfortunately almost a bit too sweet for my taste.
In addition, it has a tart, fresh and friendly scent, which I can't quite place at first...But it smells so familiar, so relaxing...
I look it up and find that there are two kinds of tea. White tea and mate tea
Well, I come from a tea drinking family and have been drinking tea myself since I can remember. It's black, not white, but it smells very similar. Until then, I didn't realize how happy and satisfied the smell of tea made me (in fact, according to the description, I would never have tried it! Two sorts of tea, bergamot leaves, oak, that actually sounds unspeakably boring...)
The mate tea later, together with the oak (bark, leaves, moss?) smells a tiny bit rougher, which is not bad
Otherwise the fragrance is beautifully balanced. It's not annoying or disgusting. And yet it's not boring
Fresh but not too citrusy. Unobtrusive, but still well perceptible.
Like a good cup of tea, stimulating and relaxing at the same time. Not a fragrance rebel who constantly demands attention, but a friendly and fresh supporter, perfect for everyday life and for evenings and other times... It always works
It is suitable for women who like it and for men to whom it is not too sweet (so probably only a few)
And although not quite cheap, he's moved in with me now

Fracas - The two sides of a "femme fatale"
What exactly is a femme fatale ? An extremely attractive woman
A demonic seductress who casts a spell on men, corrupts their morals, plunges them into ruin...( You have no chance to resist, the poor)
The perfumer who created Fracas,
Germaine Cellier may have possessed one or two attributes of a femme fatale.
In any case, she was probably not only good-looking, but also had a strong personality and a woman who was ahead of her time.
At a time when usually only men studied, she graduated in chemistry and became one of the first female perfumers ever.
Since this headstrong lady did not harmonize with her work colleague in Grasse, she got her own studio in Paris. There she could develop freely
She moved (smoking excessively and cursing) in the art scene. There she met the fashion designer Robert Piguet, also a rebel.
In 1948 she created Fracas.
Fracas means in German : riot, tumult, spectacle. Something's happening!
So what's that smell like?
My first spontaneous association when smelling the sample bottle is :
Pink. A pale pink cloud of scent floats towards me. A swampy, dull, diluted, greasy - creamy flower. Strangely pale, but nevertheless intensive
When spraying on the skin there is by exactly this "pink scent cloud" again a short Wow - effect
This initial smell is quickly joined by some new notes :
Fruity citrus scents blossom and bite each other quite a bit with the flower for a tiny moment.
But then all of this is gradually merging into a pleasing whole. There is a beautiful, deep smell of ripe, juicy, not too sweet fruit, a dark cherry perhaps, together with an intense floral scent. This must be the much sung about tuberose. A small touch of "spicy" rounds off the fragrance.
The somewhat irritating, dull, pale pink blossom floats the whole time next to it, above it, around it and thus makes the perfume really unique.
Well dosed Fracas is a really fine and pleasant fragrance. Very feminine.
Many men will like him on the right woman.
But not too much of it! With overdose the female seductress becomes a vulgar, loud, attention-seeking femme fatale - a pain in the neck of the worst kind !
Too much fracas causes (at least in my case) headaches and mild nausea.
Well dosed it is however great and fits young women as well as more mature girls.
How long does it last? In any case not too short, a few hours already.
Sillage? Absolutely ! At the beginning it smells quite strong for a short time, but that disappears quickly
I would like to know how this perfume was here at the very beginning.
What it smelled like in 1948 !
At that time, the perfumer used "bases" for her creations, among other things. These are ready-mixed fragrance mixtures that smell of peach or amber, for example, and can be incorporated into perfumes.
Many of the bases used at that time no longer exist today.
So for this perfume they used ingredients that they knew for sure belonged in the recipe and then tried to recreate the original scent to the best of their knowledge and belief.
Anyway, he smells good and modern
By the way, not only Courtney Love thinks so, but also Madonna, Kim Basinger, Sophie Dahl have allegedly already allowed themselves one or the other splash of this historic water
And I like him too

Kraut overkill first, then delicious
My first impression of this fragrance :
Green, fresh, dark and above all
herbaceous, herbaceous and again herbaceous.
( Galbanum ? ).
This bandit is a right herbal witch ! She roams through woods, meadows and fields. Earth sticks to her (leather) boots
The perfume radiates strength and originality. There is nothing soft or sweet about it. No one wants to please the bandit.
To be honest, I don't like her very much either
In the later course of the fragrance a fresh soap smell is added, the penetrating herbal note from the beginning
is getting weaker. Already much better !
From now on the water smells increasingly woody, warmer and softer. (The herbaceousness, which finally makes Bandit stand out, remains the whole time, but fades into the background later on). I like Bandit best on myself, when probably nobody but me can see him anymore..
The fragrance lasts a long time, I can still smell it on my wrist the next day
In my opinion rather a men's scent
At the beginning he's a pain in the ass, later he's delicious.
I have to admit it : I'd much rather smell that on someone else
My husband, for example.)
