About knowledge and the universe
I would like to take you on a journey today. A journey to the source, to nothingness, to pure darkness. Into a world where we realize that we know nothing. That we are only a very small part of something incomprehensibly big.

I have always found the exploration of the universe very exciting. As a young child, I often looked up at the night sky and counted the stars. At night, it was quiet and dark. Somehow I always liked that. Even today, I like to go for another walk at night, sort out my thoughts and enjoy peace and quiet. The older I got, the more intensely the big questions of existence occupied me. Where do we come from? What is the meaning of our existence? What else is there to discover in this infinite, black space? Numerous films further shaped my interest. Classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey come to mind. A breathtaking film that was way ahead of its time. However, at my age at the time, I couldn't really understand many things. I do today, though. However, I will never forget the premiere of the movie "Interstellar", which I was allowed to enjoy in the cinema as a teenager. This film has shaped me like hardly any other. Never before have I been taken visually and emotionally on such a breathtaking journey into the universe.

(At this point, a quick recommendation to anyone who has never seen the film. Well worth it!)

With this little excursion, I want to set you thematically on the journey Gyan took me on. "Gyan, [is] a Sanskrit word meaning "divine wisdom"," according to the Bvlgari website. I think this word actually describes the fragrance character perfectly. The fragrance is dark, magical, jet black, yet transparent, calm and appealing. It doesn't play with fireworks of notes, but is aware of its simplicity. "In simplicity lies beauty", according to an ancient proverb. And that applies exactly here.

I can't even describe exactly what I smell. This is definitely not a revelation of natural fragrances or expensive and exotic ingredients. But the scent is so coherent, introspective and balanced that I couldn't care less. All three of the aforementioned scents are perceptible, but yet it's so much more. It starts off very fresh, kind of metallic. The base reminds me of the kindred Tygar. But Gyan seems much more interesting with its dark, slightly smoky and floral aspects. The scent is airy - floating even - but always present. The bottle is thematically very appropriate, reminiscent of a space artifact with its stature and color. Deep black color with blue gemstone. Hardly any other fragrance manages to bridge the gap between interesting DNA and extremely pleasing basic theme like Gyan. An absolute nose flatterer.

If Cooper in Interstellar had worn a fragrance in the scene when he travels through the black hole, there are few more fitting than Gyan.

Memories
There are many ways to write a commentary and reflect your emotions in it. One writes a very informative text, another manages it through humor, still another rips a fragrance, which can be quite - depending on the humor level of the author - very amusing. Personally, I always try to reflect a personal story in my comments, which links up in me when a particular scent grows on me. As a rule, I keep it short - so I invite you to join me on this excursion.

Ambre Nuit. A true poem.

As a child, we often went on holiday to Denmark with the family. That was for me and my older brother the greatest. North Sea, dunes, a holiday home and lots of walks on the beach. My father enjoyed this time very much - being able to spend time with his family. He even hid ambers on the beach that he had previously bought at the beach shop. He told us kids that they were very special and rare stones. Then, when we found these stones that my father had previously distributed, we felt like the greatest treasure hunters on the continent. That amber texture - soft and mysterious. The depth of the ocean and the salt in the air. The sand we walked on is warm. In the evening at the cottage, the grill is lit. You snuggle in, in the yet cool evening temperatures. My father smokes a cigarette.

The scent reminds me of this time. Ambre Nuit - warm, salty amber, amber security, soft rose, well-being and last but not least a touch of tobacco - that's what I perceive. The fragrance does not have to announce itself, it is simply present.

Years later, many things are no longer as they once were. Such is the passage of time. My father no longer smokes a cigarette, ever again. Still, this fragrance will forever remind me of that beautiful time, for which I am endlessly grateful.

The Red Priestess
Who doesn't know it among us perfumers. Unfortunately, our partners do not always share our passion for fragrances, and so you are more likely to meet with incomprehension if you end up in a perfumery while walking around town. Every now and then, however, one encounters a pearl among the fragrances, which is met with great enthusiasm by both. Therefore, I would like to dedicate this comment today to a scent that unfortunately does not adorn my collection. And probably never will. Nevertheless, this fragrance is incredible

About a year ago I got the "order" from my girlfriend to choose a fragrance for her. Of course I was happy to take on this task and since many women's designer fragrances are simply too flowery, sweet and pompous for me, I looked a little to the left and right of the mainstream. In the store I came across this red bottle, which looked super chic and provocative. Lost Cherry, hm, sounds interesting. So I looked at Parfumo for the notes and figured that this fragrance could stand a lady very well. So I sprayed it on and I was immediately blown away. For the Game of Thrones fans among us, a little association: in my head was immediately the image of Melisandre.

A creamy cherry liqueur, enveloping, warm and sexy lies on a bed of sweet bitter almond aroma. In the back room, a little bit of cigar smoke wafts over. It is already dark outside and the lady puts on her most beautiful blood-red dress. That's the image I associate with this scent. Smoke is not listed, but nevertheless I perceive a subtle smoky facet. The cherry note runs through the whole fragrance and is easy to melt away.

I see the scent primarily on a woman. So sexy, wicked, yet stylish. Not too obtrusive, thanks to the moderate sillage and durability. I get into raptures again...

Of your sugary, red nectar
I got drunk.

A day at the quarry pond
I have fond memories of my youth. Especially the summers. That feeling of entering the classroom on the last day of school, looking at smiling faces and knowing that in a few hours the world will be at your feet. When the bell rang at noon, we knew that we were free for 6 weeks. Six weeks! That was an incredibly long time at that time. Arrived at home, holding the certificate in our hands, we went straight into our swimming trunks and off to the lake. 30 degrees, the sun is burning in the neck, the boys bring a case of beer and the feeling of freedom and invincibility is in the air. What tomorrow or the day after tomorrow is not interesting for us at this moment. The girls join us later, one or the other is in love, there is a magic surrounding us. Stories are written that will be told to each other years from now.

When I spray on Vetiver Pamplemousse, I am transported back to that time. The fragrance simply appears carefree, fresh, energetic, pure, natural, innocent. Sparkling grapefruit rounded off with a touch of vetiver. Sometimes it can be so simple. In the current weather, the fragrance simply conjures up a smile on your face. I am suddenly 16 years old again and have an appointment with my mates at the lake at 3 pm. It's summer holidays and I have nothing else to do for 6 weeks but enjoy my freedom. No stress, no job, no university, no deadlines, no obligations.

But after about 3 hours I am torn out of my dreams and find myself back in my everyday life. It is a pity that he does not let me wallow in memories any longer. But this does not make it less a fragrance that invites to dream.

Contrasts
It's interesting. I seem to have an affinity for fragrances that I don't like that much at first, but then with enough time they develop into what you've been looking for a long time. That's what happened to Lumière Noire and me. Love came slowly. After spraying the first spray from a plastic tester on my wrist, I was anything but enthusiastic. Old woman and funny-smelling soap were my first associations, and the bottling was immediately placed in the darkest corner of my desk. Disappointed, I left the room and was not to touch the scent for some time.

One warm evening in March I was sitting at the computer and looked out the window. The setting sun shone into my study and directed my gaze to the formerly dark corner where I placed the bottling and had already forgotten it. "Well, that must be a sign," I thought to myself and applied the scent again. "Hm, not as bad as last time," it went through my mind. I continued to work on a seminar paper and shortly afterwards an incredibly great smell came into my nose. Can this be the Lumiere Noire? That scent I associated with old women and funny soap a few weeks ago? Suddenly the scent was beautifully in the air and I could not understand these thoughts at all. The bottling was emptied in the next few days as quickly as hardly any other. Afterwards I realized: The scent just has to be added to my collection.

For me, Lumière Noire is the perfect example of the art in a perfume. The fragrance tells you a story and draws you into its spell. "Black light really does fit like a glove. The name couldn't have been more fitting to describe the contrasts: Dense, enveloping and powerful Rose and Patchouli, dark, but at the same time light because of its soapy, airy and creamy character. Spices, especially cinnamon, give the fragrance that certain extra. The fragrance also forms a contrast to me, because I am not really a flowery type. The durability is unbelievably good for an eau de toilette on my skin, the pleasant projection lasts almost the entire lifetime of the fragrance, which I have rarely experienced. The fragrance is absolutely not annoying and is always wearable. No synthetics whatsoever, the quality is - as usual from Francis Kurkdjian - on a level of the extra class.

I'm glad I didn't write the fragrance off and gave it another chance, because now it has become one of my absolute favourite fragrances. I would never have thought that I would one day wear a rose scent. Well, you're wrong. The course of my evaluation of this fragrance is also significant. At the beginning of a seven continuously corrected upwards. However, I can understand anyone who has copied the scent after testing it once. I can only encourage you to give it another chance! Maybe you will have the same fate as I did.

In any case, I am delighted to finally be the proud owner of a bottle. And this one is definitely no longer standing in a dark corner
